Dominic's POV

My phone starts ringing just as I'm getting out of my car in the school parking lot. The sound cuts through my thoughts about the conversation with my father, bringing me back to the present moment. I check the caller ID and see it's Alex calling.

"Hey," I answer, closing my car door and starting to walk toward the athletic building.

"Are you ready for today?" Alex asks, though there's something strange in his voice that I can't quite identify. He sounds tense, maybe even nervous, ...
