The chant shook the entire arena, fans on their feet waving banners and clapping as he skated into view. 

Spotlights sliced across the rink, sweeping over the sea of faces. The national anthem had barely faded when the announcer’s booming voice cracked through the speakers.

“Ladies and gentlemen…” His tone stretched the silence. “…may the Gala commence!”

Applause exploded like fireworks.
