9. Body Pickups

"You... did well."

Tiger yawned, then kissed my cheek. "Good night, my dear."

A parched throat brought me back to consciousness. The sunlight made the warm cream of the curtains appear paler and brighter. It seemed the day had changed. I thought all the senseless tragedies this week had been just a dream. I dreamed I'd died, then woken up in the body of a woman in a crazy relationship with a psychopathic boss. Another murder caught red-handed by my five senses. Another murder in this building.

However, the luxury surrounding me evoked a fear greater than death itself. Fortunately, I woke alone, clutching my worn white dress, stained with red stains, reminding me of Tiger's presence all night. I quickly made my way to the bathroom and grabbed a towel. The lukewarm shower water massaged my entire body, but I refused to linger, continuing to choose my clothes in Arthemisya's closet.

Throughout her life, the girl loved all kinds of dresses. This could also be related to her branding as a pop singer descended from heaven. I don't know; honestly, it's hard for me. Ninety percent of Arthemisya's golden wardrobe consisted of lace dresses in warm colors. They ranged from plain patterns and busy cuts to ones adorned with pearls, sparkling embellishments, or thin, wing-like strands.

I opened the bottom closet door and sighed. There were only about five stacks of white shirts, about five percent of the casual clothing I found. After dressing, I cautiously checked the adjoining suite, past the closet and the luxurious Jacuzzi for the spa bath. It was safe. There was no Tiger. The living room was also empty, and the sofa cushions were neatly arranged.

There is one more left: the kitchen. At first, it was just thirst, but now it's getting worse. It's impossible to be a celebrity and be empty.

"Wow."

I was amazed that the chandelier illuminated the gleaming white marble dining table. Then, Tiger's breakfast made my jaw drop.

A glass of fresh apple juice and spaghetti sprinkled with gold dust, just like I'd seen in a telenovela. Instead of being happy, I was reluctant to put such expensive food into my stomach. Oh, and a small note tucked under the bowl.

"I have a meeting with the STARZET board of directors to attend regarding your situation. If you need anything or need to go outside, press the green button on the door. He'll come up to pick you up in five minutes."

Note: Don't wander around on any floor. Active surveillance.

I hope you enjoy the breakfast. I love you."

What a sweet message.

I wish to read it in a different setting, with us as newlyweds, for example. Of course, fantasy can't fill you up. So, I decided to devour the golden, incredibly chewy spaghetti. Each bite burst with flavor until my mouth was full. The spaghetti sauce was so savory that I almost forgot to chew, wanting to keep shoving more into my mouth.

"Uhuk, uhukk!!" I felt a strand of noodle stuck in my throat. I quickly gulped down the cold, fresh apple juice. One of the benefits of water is that it fills me up. I could have had three more mouthfuls, but it was better than throwing them up.

There's also a giant window on the left side of the kitchen. And it's my favorite spot because it connects me to the outside world. I refilled my apple juice halfway, sipped slowly, and approached the window. It turned out the window, looking directly out onto the massive wall surrounding ARTHE PALACE.

Yes, I read the name of this luxury apartment through the large stone carvings around the fountain. This apartment was purpose-built for Arthemisya, not purchased like other celebrities—no wonder I remember the hype surrounding it. Arthemisya is always in the spotlight.

Something caught my attention.

A man in a black suit, passing by with a name tag I assumed was a security guard, was busy guiding five men. They were all dressed entirely in black, with black masks and hats. Only their latex gloves were glaring white as they lifted a coffin to be loaded onto a white truck. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. There was no mistaking it; the coffin contained the body of someone Tiger had killed the night before.

"What's wrong with that person?" I noticed one of them holding his stomach. I complained to security and was finally allowed to enter the lobby.

Never mind.

There are more critical things.

After this, Tiger will try to make me retire from singing.

Damn. If I agree, my life will be wholly controlled by Tiger. I also won't be able to debut again after retirement because STARZET holds Arthemisya, my works, and all my royalties. It would be suicide because I have nothing to gain.

How will I support my life after that?

If so, I will have to pay the penalty for terminating the contract with STARZET and take the name Arthemisya along with her hard work.

I sighed. Honestly, I wanted to get away from that psychopath as soon as possible, even if it meant unleashing a monster onto the streets.

"Ah, never mind! I've already closed my eyes. I'm not a superhero either. That's the police's job! Right, Milky! They should be the ones working harder! Focus on your life! Don't waste this second life!" I paced back and forth, overcome with anxiety, monologuing to myself.

Ding-dong.

"A guest?" I was stunned. "Can someone come here as a guest?"

With carefully, I activated the CCTV screen feature in front of the door.

"Huh?" One of the corpse carriers said. He then lowered his mask, and my eyes widened. "Zerikyu?"

"Miss, I'm sorry I came to you secretly. Last night's meeting was full of ambiguity, but I'm certain Tiger is a dangerous person for you. I know you need help! Please let me in, I'll help!" he said while looking right and left.

I was stunned for a moment. Zerikyu was no ordinary man. He was the reason I was both dead and alive. He was like a boundary between the real and the illogical. Until now, all the crazy things I'd been through were because of him. To atone for indirectly killing me, was it possible that the universe now sent Zerikyu to help me maintain this second life?

"Miss, hurry up!"
