Chapter 49: Nyra’s POV

When I opened my eyes that morning, something was wrong.

I didn’t know what it was exactly but the air felt too sharp, maybe, or the light too bright. The comforter against my skin was scratchy when it shouldn’t have been. My heart thudded like I’d just finished a sprint, even though I was lying still.

It wasn’t fear. It was more like my entire body was awake in a way it shouldn’t be.
