Chapter 109: Kade’s POV

Morning came quietly, the rays of the sun just kissing the peaks of the trees. The fires were nothing more than glowing embers now, the air thick with the chill of the night before. A few scouts were already up, stretching stiff limbs or stoking flames back to life.

I was still seated where I’d spent most of the night, on a low stump, sword resting beside me, cloak pulled tight against me to fight the cold. I hadn’t slept, but I didn’t feel tired.
