Lilith's POV
“No!” I gasped, stumbling backwards with my hands over my mouth as my heart thumped furiously against my chest.
“I told you that bastard was using you to pass time,” Serenity, my roommate, said with a huff.
With watery eyes, I collapsed onto my bed with a plop, my gaze still glued to the screen of my phone.
I tried several times to tear my eyes away, but I couldn’t.
On my phone, a video played of Gavin making out with a girl whose face I couldn’t see clearly.
He wasn’t drunk. He was fully conscious of everything he was doing.
He was hovering over her on the same bed I had helped him pick out when he moved into his new apartment.
And as if that wasn’t enough, the girl wearing the same jersey he’d claimed he had reserved for me, said he would give it to me when the time was right.
Using the back of my palm, I wiped my face and sniffled loudly.
Tossing my phone aside, I sat up and stared into space. My mind was a whirlwind of different thoughts.
Gavin was my mate, the first and only guy I had ever put so much effort into. We had promised each other to remain faithful until we officially decided to let the world know we were mates.
But now, I realized that dream had been shattered.
My gaze drifted back to the phone on the bed, the video still playing.
Once again, my hand flew to my mouth and a loud gag escaped me as more tears rolled down my cheeks.
Sitting next to me, Serenity pulled me to her and placed my head on her shoulder.
She was trying to comfort me, but my sobs drowned out her words.
This was the highest form of betrayal, coming from someone I loved and adored. My wolf howled in pain, and I knew she was hurting as much as I was.
Our Pack is one of the largest in the region, blending modern society with werewolf traditions, thereby making my school a mixed school of Humans and Werewolves.
So I knew I had to control my howling, in order not to distract the human students.
But my mate had just cheated on me. He was in another woman’s arms doing the things meant only for me with her. What heartbreak could be worse than that?
Unable to bear the sting anymore, I snatched my phone from the bed and bolted towards the door, but Serenity beat me to it.
Standing between me and the door, she spread out her arms and said, “You need to calm down.”
“Out of my way,” I snapped, gritting my teeth in anger, but she didn’t flinch.
“I know you’re mad at him right now, but confronting him… he’s probably at the stadium practicing for his next game.”
She paused briefly before continuing. “His friends are there. They’re going to make things difficult for you. Why don’t you wait until later tonight?”
When I didn’t say a word, she added, “If you want, I can go with you.”
“No, thanks,” I snapped, pushing her aside. I wasn’t even in the mood to listen to her. My heart was too broken to care.
With heavy footsteps, I stormed out of the dorm, ignoring everyone I passed.
When I reached the stadium, Gavin was practicing for the intra squad game and the crowd consisted of half-wolves, half-humans.
But I didn’t care. I didn’t even hold myself back.
Holding out my phone, I walked up to him and shoved it right in his face.
He exchanged glances with his friends before moving closer to me, his eyes flicking to the screen of my phone.
Confusion flickered in his eyes for a brief moment before indifference replaced it.
“Oh, you saw it,” he said casually, swatting my hand away.
“What?” I gasped, shock written all over my face as I stared blankly at him.
After seeing that video, I expected him to cower and beg for forgiveness, but he didn’t do any of that.
Instead, he was completely unfazed, acting carefree about it.
“Did you see the video?” I asked shamelessly.
We were now the center of attention. His teammates had stopped practicing and were watching us intently.
But I was too hurt to care. My gaze stayed fixed on Gavin, who ruffled his hair hard before throwing a harsh glance at his best friend, Vince.
“Vince, I fucking asked you not to send the video to her!” he yelled at Vince, who was giggling, clearly mocking my whole situation.
“You needed help, and as your friend I did all I could to help. You’ve always wanted to end things with her, but you didn’t know how, so I helped,”
Vince shrugged, unbothered by the fact that his words were tearing my heart into pieces.
“You should be thanking me, bro,” he added.
I couldn’t believe my ears. Gavin had it in mind all along to end things with me? Why? I hadn’t even done anything wrong.
We’d been fine, at least until I saw the video, which had come as a complete shock because it was so unexpected.
Gavin cleared his throat, pulling my attention back to him.
Right now, staring back at me, his eyes weren’t full of love and adoration like they had always been.
Now they were full of disgust and irritation?
“You had to find out that way. I apologize,” he said calmly. “I’ve always wanted to tell you I wasn’t interested in you anymore. It took me a long time to realize you weren’t my type or the one I’d want to spend my life with. I…..”
I raised my hand, stopping him from speaking further. Tears burned my eyes as I gazed deeply into his eyes.
“Did I do anything wrong? Tell me, and I’ll make it right,” I whispered, tears rolling down my cheeks.
“Okay, if this is about me coming to confront you in front of your friends and teammates, I apologize. I’ll go back to the dorm and pretend this never happened.” I wiped my tears with the back of my palm and stepped back.
“We’ll discuss this when you’re back.” I knew this was foolish to say, but I didn’t care. Losing Gavin would ruin me.
“Stop acting like a kid and accept the reality, Lilith,” Gavin said harshly.
“And what reality is that? We are mates, Gavin. We can’t just end things this way!” I snapped.
“Rejection was never said to be impossible.”
“What?”
Before I could even process his words, he continued.
“I, Gavin Eduardo, reject you, Lilith Moonstone, as my mate,” he said, his voice void of emotion and his eyes cold.
Loud cheers erupted across the stadium as his friends cheered him as though he had just won a trophy. To them, Gavin rejecting me as an Omega is proof of his strength and status, even though it’s cruel.
My heart squeezed, and I clutched my chest tight, feeling the mate bond rippling between us. It was as though a knife had been dug into my heart, pulling out something I couldn’t even explain. I felt a physical tearing sensation in my chest that everyone watching could smell, the scent of severed bonds.
Tears filled my eyes as I stared at Gavin. There was a flicker of pain on his face, clearly feeling the sting of rejection, but amidst that he wore a look of triumph as his friends continued cheering him on.
That moment, I realized how much of a fool I had been. With my heart broken into pieces, I stood upright and said, “I accept the rejection.”
The pain that followed was incomparable to the pain I had felt when Gavin rejected me.
My wolf howled in pain, and I felt the mate bond finally rip out of me and painful sobs escaped my lips.
Without waiting another second, I turned and walked away, hearing Gavin’s friends congratulating him for rejecting me.
With blurred vision, I walked out of the stadium, ignoring the curious glances thrown my way.
Using the back of my palm, I wiped my face as I continued walking out in shame.
