“Huh?” For a moment, all I could do was stare in silence. His words seemed to echo so loudly against the quiet of the apartment even long after he’d spoken them.

“Lilith!” His words snapped me out of my trance. He forced me to look into his eyes. “Let's run away together. To somewhere safer than here. I can protect you, Lilith, I just don't know for how long.”
