42. The nightmare

Nina

I wake up gasping, the remnants of the nightmare still clawing at me. Cold sweat sticks to my skin as I sit up in bed, breath shallow and erratic. The dream is there, lingering like a ghost I can’t shake off.

I’m standing in a graveyard, the earth beneath me damp and dark. I’m burying him. My child. The one I lost. It’s not real, but it feels like it is. I can feel the weight of the tiny bundle in my arms, the pain of loss crawling into every inch of my chest.
