The silence in the room felt heavier than the air itself.

After Ares left, I sat on the edge of the bed, the blanket still wrapped around me, trying to steady the wild rhythm of my heartbeat. The memory of last night burned beneath my skin — his touch, his voice, the way he’d looked at me like I was the only thing holding him together.
