Harmony and Zeferino were silently traveling in the carriage after leaving the palace.
“Big sis—”
“Harmony,” the young woman interrupted, saying her name, which confused him.
“Pardon?”
“Call me what you usually do.” She stared straight out the window as she spoke. The young man had never called his older sister ‘big sister,’ which surprised Harmony.
“I-I'm sorry...” Harmony glanced at the young man, noticing an unreadable emotion on his face. “I know I haven’t been a good sibling to you, and I apologize. As your brother and the Crown Prince, I should understand what you're going through.” The young man was taken aback when she suddenly laughed.
“As your brother, my ass,” she turned to him, her smile vanishing as she looked at him seriously. “Now you use the word 'brother' when I've always been invisible to you. Do you see how ridiculous you sound?”
“Since you were born, I have never existed in your life. Now, you’ll suddenly show concern and sincerity. Do you think that pleases me? No. I don't need your concern or pity. Continue treating me as you always have until my death. Got it?”
Harmony didn't know where that feeling came from, but she suspected it was the emotions the real Harmony couldn't express due to a lack of courage. But was it normal for her to feel this way when she wasn't the real Harmony? She didn't know, all she knew was that her end was near—the scene where her life would end. But was she ready? Was she ready to face death a second time? Would she simply accept her fate at the hands of assassins?
She chuckled inwardly, placing her right hand on her forehead and leaning against the carriage window.
No! It would be a disgrace for a high-ranking assassin like me to die at the hands of low-level assassins.
She took a deep breath and sat up straight. Right, she wouldn't let her life end at the hands of weak assassins, so she would do everything to survive, even with this frail body. She wasn't born an assassin for nothing.
“Harmony—” Both of them stopped when they suddenly heard an explosion and horses screaming. “What happened—ackk!” Harmony's eyes widened as Zeferino suddenly vomited a lot of blood.
She grimaced at the toxic smell of his blood. “This...you are poisoned!” Just as she shouted, the carriage overturned, causing her head to hit and shatter the window.
Harmony felt blood gushing from her head, causing her to close her eyes. When she opened them, her vision was briefly blurred, but she saw strange figures pulling the prince away.
Even though it was difficult, she tried to crawl out of the carriage. She noticed a significant amount of blood on the ground and the lifeless bodies of knights. She blinked and frowned at the scene.
The intense pain she felt was replaced by confusion because, instead of assassins, she saw monsters. She wasn't mistaken; according to the book, assassins attacked the carriage to assassinate the Crown Prince, who was responsible for the original Harmony's death. Due to the poison Zeferino ingested at the party, he couldn't save his sister, and Harmony died within the first five pages of the book.
That’s where Harmony's role as a side character ended. After her death, the male lead would seek justice, bringing the female and male leads together.
But what in the world is going on?! What has caused this scene to change? Monsters here instead of assassins?!
The young woman screamed inwardly but stopped when she saw a monster lift the Crown Prince, intending to devour him alive. Harmony didn't know what to do, but she found herself grabbing a sword stuck in a knight's stomach and running toward the Crown Prince. She felt nothing but the desire to save him for some unknown reason.
While the young man felt as if his core was burning from the poison, the abyss of death gradually consumed half his soul. Despite the pain, he felt a pang of anxiety, not for his safety but for his sister.
As the monster lifted him, he saw his sister slowly pulling the sword from the knight's stomach and running toward him. He shook his head.
“No. D-don't...don't come this way. I'm begging you, please run away...sister—” The prince lost consciousness before he could finish.
The young woman reached the monster and, jumping onto its back, caused it to drop the prince. The monster's attention turned to her.
She stabbed the monster but winced, unable to drive the sword deep due to her weakness. When the monster's large hand struck her, she was thrown against a tree.
“Argh—damn it! I am no longer pleased with this scenario.” She endured the pain and slowly stood, still holding the sword.
If she had to give all her strength to the point that her body reached its limit, she would do it, just to survive this scene.
She took a deep breath and let it out as she went towards the monster, closing her eyes. She didn't open her eyes, but she was able to get close and stab the monster thanks to her keen hearing and senses. After stabbing it, she stepped on its head and jumped to another.
When she smashed the monsters' heads with the sword, she faltered, and her feet landed on the ground as her eyes opened simultaneously. She emotionlessly looked at the heads falling to the ground but frowned when she sensed a presence behind her. As she turned, the monster’s large hand struck her, sending her flying. Her body crashed into the ground, sinking slightly due to the impact.
Her heart raced, feeling dizzy and unable to move her body due to the attack. She closed her eyes.
Is that all? Is this the end of my life? Can I truly not change my fate? Will I die in my second life?
She laughed inwardly. It seemed this was her karma for her past sins. She wondered if the people who died by her hands felt the same way.
“Sis,” she paused when she heard that voice in her mind, “stay alive. Please try to live, my sister...”
Harmony tearfully opened her eyes just as the monster dragged her, realizing its intention to devour her whole.
Savianna...
“NO!” Harmony was surprised when someone suddenly shouted, and she remembered the Crown Prince. He was covered in blood and kept vomiting.
“S-spare my sister's life—take my life instead. P-please!” Even though she was struggling, Harmony frowned because she didn't expect the male lead to kneel for an extra like her.
The events weren't written in the book; the scene of the male lead begging for his sister's life wasn't in the book.
Why? Why is he doing this? Instead of kneeling, why didn't he just run and save his life? If this continues, he may die from blood loss.
She looked up at the monster as it moved its left hand, intending to slam it on the young man, but she stopped it.
She didn't know how, but she didn't care if she died now as long as she saved her brother, something new for her. Suddenly, she didn't recognize herself because of her desire to save him.
She found herself on top of the monster's chest and used her palm with all her might to stab the monster's chest. She screamed and bit her lip in pain.
She could only gape as the monster fell, and when she looked at Zeferino, he was unconscious again, so she breathed a sigh of relief that he didn't see what she did.
Slowly, she stood and looked at the monster again. “I took countless lives in my past life, but in this second life, it's the first time I've saved a life with these thin and soft hands. It's funny, isn't it?” After saying that, she knelt and clutched her head as it throbbed, feeling as if it were being pricked by millions of needles.
She found herself vomiting blood and, in the middle of it, laughed as she wiped the blood from her lips with the back of her hand.
This darn body! How did I end up in this situation?
