“You look restless. What’s going on? Did you see a ghost?” Jeffery’s voice was calm but sharp, his eyes flicking toward me as he drove.

I shook my head quickly, hugging my arms to myself. “No… it’s nothing. I just… I feel like someone’s trailing me.” My voice trembled despite my effort to sound steady. “Maybe my father’s guards have finally found out where I am.”
