The pack house had gone quiet, but silence never meant peace. It only meant the wolves were listening.

I stood on the balcony outside my chambers, the cold air biting into my skin as I stared across the territory. The forest stretched endlessly, dark and alive, every tree bound to me by oath and blood. This was what they were threatening to take away—as if leadership was a crown they could simply pry from my head.
