I stiffened.

What? Had I misheard him?

I pulled away slowly, sniffling as I peered into my father’s hallowed, tired face.

“Dad…?”

His blue eyes looked so sad, it caused the lump in my throat to grow tighter.

“He kept telling me you were here,” he croaked. “I didn’t believe him. He likes to taunt me with things like that all the time.”
