“Opal,” I call her cautiously. Drake is on edge, taking small steps toward her, but the magic sends us flying into the wall. Thankfully, Drake covers me, softening the impact.

“Are you alright?” Drake asks, his eyes scanning me from head to toe. His concern, framed on his handsome face, is endearing, but I can’t focus on that. I’m too busy watching Opal’s magic swirling around her, green particles visible to my eyes.
