“Is your name Brandon?” I asked.

My mouth was dry, yet my palms were sweating.

He nodded. “Brandon Devon.”

“Did you have businesses in a small fishing town?”

He shoved his hands into his coat pockets. “I still do.”

“And you have two children?”

I never asked Ryder if he had siblings, and he didn’t bring it up.

“Yes, Ryder has an older sister. She left town a long time ago.”
