Chapter Six

Layla's POV.

“Don't you think that ordering the maids to get her things out was too extreme?” I asked Zeke as soon as we walked into our supposed bedroom.

“It isn't.” He spoke firmly. “Pack your things Layla, you are moving into the room tonight.” He added, moving closer to the bed. He sat down and pulled out his phone, burying his face on the screen.

Every fiber in me wanted to protest but honestly, I was too tired for that. It has his house, his marriage and his rules.

I moved to the closet and brought out my suitcase. It wasn't big but at least it was mine. I was only able to bring a few outfits. Because of Kloe’s condition, I couldn't afford the luxury of shopping and buying new outfits. Every single penny that I got was being channeled to her treatment.

I carried the suitcase and dropped it on the bed. I unzipped it and moved back to the closet. I carried some of my few dresses and walked back to the bed. I threw them on the bed and went back to the closet. It was a to and fro movement until all my clothes were on the bed.

“Is this everything you brought?” Zeke's thick voice rang in the room. I turned around and stared at him, not sure of what to respond. The expression on his face showed that he had been staring at me for a while.

I nodded slightly and started to fold them.

“No, this won't do.” He said, getting up from the bed. He walked in confident strides as he approached me. “If you are going to pretend to be my girlfriend, I need you to wear sexy dresses. The type that would infuriate Kaylee.” He said, scattering the clothes on the bed. “None of this meets up to that standard.”

“You may be right but this is everything I can afford.” I said softly, lowering my head as if I had just failed him.

“That's why you have me sweetheart.” He said, tilting my head up. He stared into my eye delicately and I felt my whole body responding to it. “Why don't we go on a shopping spree? Pick whatever you want, it's on me.” He spoke, still staring into my eyes.

Just as I was about to answer, the door to our room was pushed open with vigor. A very angry Kaylee stood at the entrance of the room.

“What the hell is the meaning of that?” She barked angrily, staring at both of us.

Zeke slowly removed his hand from my chin and tucked both of them into his pocket.

“Weren't you taught how to knock?” He said in a cold tone.

“Knock?” Kaylee scoffed audibly. “Why the hell will you ask the maids to move my things out of the master's bedroom?” She spoke in a commanding tone.

“Why not? This is my house and I will do exactly as I see fit.” He replied, still maintaining his cool demeanor. “My girlfriend doesn't like this room. She complained it's too small and her convenience is all that matters to me.” He added.

What was he talking about? This room was perfect. In fact it was like paradise to me but I dared not to speak.

“You are unbelievable Zeke. I can't believe you have the nerves to pull this with me.” She said angrily, moving closer to him.

I had no idea how their relationship was before they got married but I was greatly surprised at the tone she used to speak to him. Zeke Reid is one of the most influential business tycoons in the city of New York.

He owned the biggest luxury real estate empire in the states. Aside from that, he had other brands under his name, a fashion brand and also a restaurant. I was only able to get the job of his personal assistant because of Stella– My best friend.

“For fuck sake!” He yelled angrily which startled me. I didn't expect a reaction like that from him. “Layla wants that room and I am giving it to her.” He declared firmly.

Kaylee looked like she was about to scratch his face but instead, she took a deep breath. “You know what Zeke? Do whatever you want. Give your one-eyed girlfriend the whole house if you want. I don't care.” She said angrily before storming out.

Hitting at my insecurity did the job. A teardrop escaped from my eye but I wiped it away quickly.

I looked at Zeke's direction. His gaze was still fixed at the door which Kaylee just walked out of. I couldn't tell what was going on with him but somehow, I could sense he wasn't alright.

“Are you….”

“I will wait for you in the car. Get ready.” He said, interrupting my statement. He walked out of the room leaving me all alone.

I moved to the bed and sat on it. I took a deep breath and pulled out my phone. I stared at the wallpaper which was a picture of me and Khloe.

“I am only doing this for you.” I said, reminding myself.

I quickly got dressed in a dark blue jean and a white crop top. It was the closest outfit I could consider sexy. Although my hips weren't as broad as Haylee’s, it was still a sight to behold.

I let my hair fall freely down my back and took the glasses Zeke got for me. It complimented my outfit perfectly. I wasn't the one to brag, but I looked pretty. I rubbed a nude lipstick and sprayed my favorite perfume before sauntering out of the room.

“Ufffgh” I exclaimed as I bumped into someone, causing my phone to fall to the ground.

“Fuck, I just had that screen fixed.” I murmured underneath my breath, bending to pick it up.

“I think you should donate your other eye to charity since you can use it properly.” I heard her voice with so much disdain.

I picked up my phone from the floor, exhaling as I got to my feet. This isn't good….
