Chapter Nine

Layla’s POV.

I shut my eyes firmly waiting for the worst to happen. I never imagined I was going to die in a car accident but I didn't think there was much I could do.

The car suddenly came to halt, forcing my body to fling forward. My head slammed against the window and I couldn't help but feel an excruciating pain.

For a moment, everything blurred. I could hear the distant hum of the engine dying and also the groans of Zeke beside me. I slowly raised my hand to touch the part I was feeling pain and my body instantly began to shake when I saw blood.

“Are you okay?” I heard Zeke's voice. I tried to speak up but my mouth wouldn't open. “Layla?” He called again, trying to reach out for me. My vision went fuzzy and everywhere went dark.

I opened my eyes slowly and found myself in a hospital room. I sat up on the bed and clutched my head in pain –It was now bandaged. The image of the accident came flooding back. The last thing I remembered was Zeke calling my name.

As if the thought of his name summoned him, the door to my hospital room was pushed open and Zeke walked in with a light smile across his face. I noticed a small plaster on his forehead which meant that he got injured too.

“I am glad to see you are awake. The doctor said you passed out due to shock.” He explained, walking to the bed. He finally got there and sat just beside me.

“I am sorry Layla.” Were the next words that came out of his mouth. “I shouldn't have reacted the way I did but I couldn't help myself.” He explained, lowering his head. Perhaps it was guilt that was preventing him from looking at me.

I was tempted to ask him what he saw on his phone but I kept shut. If it could make him behave that way, I wasn't sure if it wouldn't again.

“Which hospital is this?” I finally spoke. The last thing I would want is for Khloe to find out that I have been hospitalized. She was already going through so much and I couldn't add it.

“If you are worried about being seen by your sister, then I can assure you that you wouldn't.” He answered, slowly raising his head to look at me. “A good friend of mine owns this hospital. Khloe was admitted to Central hospital, remember?”

I nodded slightly.

“When is her treatment going to start?” I seized the opportunity and asked. I had plans on speaking to him about it when we got to the boutique but that didn't work as planned.

“That's a terrible thing to worry about in this condition.” He answered. “But, in order to put your mind at ease, I have made payments for her treatment and it might begin any moment from now.” He explained.

“We haven't exactly discussed where she would be staying.” I said. I had no idea where all this courage was coming from.

“Can we discuss that when you feel better?” Zeke insisted and I knew it was my time to keep shut.

After a few hours of waiting, I was discharged from the hospital. The doctor confirmed my injuries weren't serious and all I needed to do was to take the drugs that were prescribed.

Zeke couldn't drive, especially after what happened. He called one of his drivers to meet us at the hospital. Very soon, we were both settled at the backseat of the car while the driver was focused on the road.

“Did Haylee leave the house after we did?” Zeke broke the silence between us. He was asking the driver.

“Yes boss. I saw her leaving the house earlier today. I have no idea where she went.” The driver replied, locking his eyes on Zeke's through the rare view mirror.

It all made sense now. Zeke must have reacted that way because he saw something on his phone that has to do with Kaylee. But what could it be?

I expected Zeke to ask more questions but he surprised me by keeping shut. We eventually got to the and the driver pulled the car over.

“Wait here.” Zeke instructed, coming down from the car. He walked over to the other side and unlocked the door for me. A light smile formed on my lips.

“Thank you….”

Zeke swept me off the floor, disrupting my statement. He cradled me in his arms effortlessly.

“Kaylee is watching from the window, play along.” He stated, locking his eyes on mine. He leaned over and pecked me on the cheeks. I raised my head slightly and noticed Kaylee standing with her arms folded across each other. She had a scorn on her face as she watched us. I wrapped my hands around his neck as he walked into the house.

Ignoring all the maids' greetings in the house, Zeke went straight to his bedroom with me in his arms. As soon as we got in, he moved towards the bed swiftly and kept me slowly on it.

“That was a perfect act.” He said, having a satisfied grin across his face.

I nodded and smiled. “I am glad that I could live up to your expectations.”

“Why don't I allow you to get some rest huh? We will go out for dinner as soon as you feel better.” Zeke suggested.

“Alright.”

Just as Zeke was about to turn around, the door to the room went unlocked. Without thinking twice, Zeke threw himself on me. I knew for a fact that he was under the impression that it was Kaylee. Since I could clearly see the door from where I laid, I saw a maid at the door instead.

Before I could protest further, his lips were on mine, devouring me like that was what he was born to do so.

Sensing the tension, the maid quickly walked out the room but it was too late. Zeke was as hard as a rock. I could feel his erection on my thigh.
