Chapter 3. Pregnant

A bright light pierced Jingga's eyes as her eyelids slowly fluttered open. Her head felt heavy, her body limp and weak. The pristine white ceiling she first saw made her realize she was in a hospital room.

Jingga’s hand felt stiff. She glanced to the side, where the IV tube hung near her bed. With great effort, Jingga tried to move her head, while pain spread from her nape down to her back. She groaned softly; even moving her legs felt extremely difficult.

"Why am I here…?" Jingga murmured softly.

A split second later, the door opened. A nurse entered with a gentle smile and approached Jingga. "You're awake, ma'am?" she asked kindly.

Jingga tried to answer, but her throat was dry. She could only nod slowly. Jingga found it difficult to move.

"You were found near the river, seriously injured," the nurse continued, checking the IV. "Thankfully, you survived."

Jingga's eyes widened. "What?"

Jingga tried to remember everything before she ended up here. Memories of that night slowly returned. The heavy rain, the old bridge, the rushing river below… and herself standing on the railing, ready to jump.

Jingga bit her lip. She had truly wanted to end her life that night. The pain, humiliation, and betrayal she had experienced seemed to consume her whole. But now… she was still alive. Someone had saved her.

While the nurse continued to check her condition, Jingga stared blankly at the ceiling. She was still grappling with her thoughts. She felt as though life still wanted her.

Several Weeks Later. The days passed with great suffering for Jingga. For these past few weeks, she could only lie in bed, unable to move freely; even eating required the help of a nurse. Jingga regretted attempting to end her life. She felt her actions on the bridge were truly foolish. Ending one's life was the act of a coward and a grave sin.

Today, after several agonizing weeks in the hospital bed, Jingga finally received good news.

"Can I go home now?" she asked, her voice stronger.

The nurse smiled. "Everything has improved enough. You may go home, but you must continue to take care of yourself."

Jingga exhaled in relief. She couldn't stand being confined here any longer. But before she left, one question bothered her.

"Who saved me that night?" she asked.

The nurse merely smiled. "You'll find out for yourself later. Please wait here until he arrives."

Jingga kept waiting. She didn't care how long he waited. That day, no one showed up to claim to be his savior.

"I can't stay here forever," Jingga thought. "I have to leave."

Jingga decided to go elsewhere and start a new chapter. But there was one problem. All her personal belongings—her ID, savings, and valuables—were still at the house now occupied by Gery and Loly.

Jingga clenched her fists. She didn't want to see them again, but she had to get her things. She needed her ID as a requirement for obtaining a visa.

*

A few hours later, Jingga stood in front of Gery's house. The house she once lived in with so much love now felt foreign.

Luckily, the front door was unlocked, allowing Jingga to step inside easily without hindrance.

"Jingga!"

The startled voice made Jingga instantly turn. She saw Loly standing in the living room, her face pale at Jingga's arrival.

However, Jingga ignored her. Without a single word, she quickly walked toward her room. Jingga wanted to look for something important.

"Stop, Jingga! What are you doing in my room?"

Loly quickly chased after her and pulled her arm as Jingga entered the master bedroom.

Not one to back down, Jingga roughly swatted Loly's hand away. "Oh, so you already consider this your room?" her tone laced with sarcasm.

"I just want to get my things," Jingga continued firmly. "I'm sick of both of you."

Loly bit her lip, feeling offended. "Gery said all this belongs to him, including the bag and everything in here. It was all his gift, and you can't take it, Jingga!"

Jingga scoffed. "Some things are from Gery, but not everything. Many things I bought myself with my own money."

Jingga picked up a suitcase and quickly began packing her belongings. This included a jewelry set that she had indeed bought herself.

With a swift movement, Loly suddenly snatched the jewelry box from Jingga's hand. "This jewelry is mine!"

"No!" Jingga grabbed it back. "I bought it!"

Just then, the sound of a car was heard from outside. Jingga recognized the sound; Gery was home.

Loly gritted her teeth. She couldn't let Jingga simply leave. Quickly, she grabbed a glass from the table, smashed it, then picked up a sharp shard.

*Crack!*

Loly slashed the shard across her own arm, then screamed loudly.

"OW! My arm is bleeding!"

Jingga flinched immediately. She hadn't expected Loly to hurt herself. "Loly, what are you—"

Too late.

The main door opened, and Gery entered. He instantly saw Loly crying, clutching her bleeding arm.

"What did you do to Loly, Jingga?"

Jingga froze. "It wasn't me! I didn't hurt her!"

But Loly was already sobbing uncontrollably in Gery's arms. "Jingga wanted to take my jewelry! I told her no, but she forced me and hurt me!"

Gery's eyes blazed with anger. Without thinking, he grabbed Jingga's arm and dragged her out of the house.

"If you hate me, don't hurt Loly!" he roared. "It's true, you're a truly evil woman!"

Jingga stared at him in disbelief. "I didn't do anything! Why do you believe her over me?"

"Because I already know who you truly are!" Gery gritted his teeth. "I regret ever loving you!"

Gery shoved Jingga, making her fall to the floor. Old wounds on her body reopened, and fresh blood seeped out.

Gery didn't care. "Get out of my life! I don't want to see you again!"

Gery slammed the door shut. He felt utterly disappointed after hearing that Jingga had allegedly planned the accident some time ago to gain his sympathy. At that moment, Gery had completely changed and begun to despise Jingga. He felt disgusted by everything Jingga did.

Outside the house, Jingga felt immense pain. But before she could get up, several large men suddenly arrived. They forcibly dragged her into a car.

"Hey! Let go of me!" Jingga struggled to resist, but someone clamped a hand over her mouth. The car sped away, taking Jingga to an unknown destination.

*

In an upscale clinic, Jingga lay on a gurney. Her body still felt weak, but she forced herself to sit up.

"Let me go! Why are you holding me captive here?" Jingga snapped.

"A doctor approached and placed his hand on Jingga’s shoulder. "Calm yourself, Miss. From now on, you must take care of your health."

Jingga scoffed. "I don't need treatment! I just want to leave here!"

The doctor looked at her seriously. "Miss, you must not be stressed. Have pity on the baby in your womb."

Jingga immediately fell silent, shocked by the doctor's words. "What?"

The doctor smiled gently. "Congratulations, you're pregnant. Your pregnancy is already two weeks along."

*Thump.* Jingga felt her heart stop.

"Impossible… I've never slept with any man!"

The doctor showed her an ultrasound image. A fetus was clearly visible moving inside.

Jingga swallowed hard, utterly shocked. Her head spun."I have never been with anyone. Who got me pregnant?"
