MAYA'S POV

I fling my hands in the air, trying to hit the beast or do anything to stop myself from becoming a meal. The beast sniffs me, stares into my eyes and lets out a dissatisfied growl. It tosses me roughly against the wall. I whine in pain, clutching my ribs.

The beast turns to Selene, his eyes sharp with murderous intent. He goes on all fours, ready to pounce on her, but the dark light from her crystal jolts the beast backwards. When it tries moving forward again, it growls in agony ...
