Chapter Nine

MARTHA’S POVPierce had gone mad, announcing Grace as his long lost lover; he had gone beyond reform. Knowing there’s nothing I could do to stop him from turning Grace into Lana, I had no choice but to play along.

Yes, she looks like Lana, but she’s Grace, a different person entirely. So, when I decided to let Pierce have his way, I equally made up my mind to end his madness right where it starts.

“Pick a training partner with whom you will have a duel,” I said after the ladies had gathered at the training ground. I waited until everyone had paired up with someone before giving them the actual memo..

“For today’s training, you’ll fight to the death,” I said, dropping the bomb on them, leaving them all in shock. None of them was prepared for this, especially not Grace.

“Either kill your partner or be killed by your partner,” my eyes landed on Grace who seemed to be retreating. I was not going to give her that chance.

“Start!” I ordered before leaving the training ground to stand by the side. Grace was still weak and has not fully recovered from the poison in her system. If she dies, then Pierce would stop his madness. A smile crept into my lips as I watched the show in front of me.

True to my theory, Grace could barely fight back her opponent. I watched her receive several blows, unable to launch one herself.

“What are you doing!?” It was Pierce’s authoritative voice. But that was not going to faze me. Even though Pierce was Alpha, I had trained myself above his commanding aura. Hence, I dare to challenge him often.

“Martha, stop them,” he said. It was more like an order, but I could sense the fear in his voice.

“I’m sorry Pierce, but the rules of this game cannot be broken,” I said.

“She isn’t strong enough,” he growled.

“Then we don’t need her!”

“You don’t need her!” I growled back at him. He clenched his jaw and turned away from me.

“I will end this myself,” he said.

“Are you going to give the act away?” I asked him, reminding him of his intentions.

Just then, I heard a loud growl from the arena. It made my blood boil in excitement knowing the fight was getting more interesting. Then I saw it, the wolf, one I had never seen before.

“They say a white wolf could either bring fortune or misfortune,” I said my thoughts out loud, marvelling at the sight of such rarity.

“Grace?” Pierce muttered. Then I realised Grace was the white wolf. It was my first time seeing her wolf. I clenched my teeth seeing her surpass her opponent and ripping the other she-wolf apart without mercy.

She did it… but that was not the result I bargained for. Other she-wolves seemed to be afraid of her. Some had abandoned fighting and fled, others had used that as an opportunity to defeat their opponents.

“Lana!” Pierce called out, wanting to go catch Grace the moment her wolf collapsed. I held him back, restraining him from ruining his own plans.

“You can’t favour her in front of everyone. You still have plans you do not want to ruin,” I said to him. He sighed, then left.

He was obvious furious, but I could careless. As long as he does not ruin his grand plan. Even if Grace dies, the plan will still be carried out. But for now, I would have to find another way to get rid of Grace.

“To those who won in this round, see you in the next,” I said to those who were still alive.

Then I have an order for everyone who ran away cowardly to be disqualified from the competition. We’ve built Layer pack to be the strongest amongst the packs in existence. Forgiving such cowardice would only soil our reputation.

“You’ll be sent back to your various packs,” I said, before leaving the arena.

“Martha!” Pierce called. I turned to look at him. To be honest, I thought he had gone far away from the arena.

“Are you really just going to dismiss them?” he asked. I raised a brow at him questioningly.

“We have a white wolf in our midst,”

“You and I know that they are either spies or assassines. They won’t just leave without attempting something,” Pierce said.

“Who said they would have the chance to do anything?”

“They are all going to die, Pierce,” I said with a smirk on my face before walking away. Then I sent a few of our men to see the disqualified ladies off with the sole duty of getting rid of them along the way, except, it would be me who kills them all.

Knowing fully well I had a task at hand, I dressed up myself in black. I had my underlings dress up in black as well. “Kill in one strike!” this was the order I have to every one of them before we set out on our mission.

By night time, we were done and had returned, except for Naila. I tried to sense her, but there was no trace of her. I bit my lips, there was no sign that she had died. How come I can’t even find her?

Then I realised that none of the werewolves I sent to escort the she-wolf from the Hard wood pack had returned.

“Wolves!” I said, calling out to our guards.

“Find her!” I said, handing them a piece of clothing belonging to Naila. If she was in this pack, then she can be found.

Just then one of our pack members was brought in, wounded. He had lost one limb.

“Martha, we found him at the north gate,” Bolos said. I rushed to the wounded Wolf’s side.

“Tell me, where is she?” I asked him.

“The one you sent to carry out the job killed everyone, and left with the target,” just as the word left his mouth, I slew him.

“You were not supposed to come back alive if you could not handle a traitor!” I said.

“Find them!” I said, turning to the rest of my underlings.
