Camilla's pov I couldn't sleep throughout the night, my mind kept replaying what Dr Heyes had sent. My eyes were swollen and puffy from crying all through. But she spoke to me well, before I left the hospital. We had a good conversation and she played and laughed, how did a panic attack happen? I am so scared, I must not lose her, she was the only person that kept me going, that made me believe there was still hope somewhere, I don't know how I would be if anything happened to her.
Immediately, it was dawn. I didn't wait for any alarm to wake me. As I rushed to the bathroom, I packed my hair into a bun and had my bath quickly. I wore a short gown and a flat. I didn't even bother eating, because food wasn't my problem at that moment. I grabbed my tote bag and put the necessary inside as I rushed out and locked the door. I took the nearest taxi, as I kept whispering little prayers under my breath. The taxi man constantly glanced back now and then, he knew something wasn't right, but he didn't just say anything about it. I could see the hospital from afar, and my hands started trembling, but I just rubbed them together, so no one would notice the trauma I was facing beneath. I paid the taxi driver quickly, I didn't even care if my money remained, I just rushed into the hospital and went straight to Dr Heyes office, knocked when I went there, “come in”, and I opened the door, immediately he saw me, his expression changed. He wasn't happy, just as he used to be. “Miss Reed, your sister's condition is very serious, and if we don't start the surgery now…or else..”, I didn't let him finish, as I rushed out of his office, to Aurora's ward, I couldn't recognize my munchkin, she was dry and laying lifeless on the bed. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it felt like I was in a nightmare, I pinched myself hoping to wake up, but it's all real. I rushed out of the hospital, as it rained heavily, the rain soaked me wet, I walked alone, no one was on the road, everyone stared at me like I wasn't in my right senses. Where would I get the money? I had no one to call? I had no relatives that were willing to help and my sister was lying lifeless on that bed. My bag was totally wet, and the fabric I wore was thin. I was already shivering from the cold, and there was no shade. I just stayed on the run and watched how the rain beat me to pulp.
I don't know how long I stood in the rain. My teeth were chattering together because of the cold. Just as I thought I would collapse there, a light shone from afar, a car slowed down beside me. At first, I barely noticed because of the heavy rain. It was a sleek black car, with tinted windows, making it impossible to see who was inside. It was the kind that only powerful and influential men drove. The car stopped right beside where I was shivering, I thought it was a coincidence, until a hand waved over, I got scared. Was he referring to me? Should I go? I was so exhausted, that I didn't know what to do, until the passenger window rolled down, and the hand gestured again for me to come. I had no choice than, beckon to the hand before I caught a cold. The door opened, and the person gestured for me to enter, after I entered it close by itself and the car rolled off.
The car got warmer, as it pulled off, making the cold less. I turned to my left to thank the person who rescued me from the cold, but I was stunned to see who my helper was. Dominic Haleee, the person who I confronted, the rude and ruthless man, that no one could look at twice, had scared me from the rain. “ Are you done staring?”, he asked, as it brought me back to reality. “G-good evening”, I stuttered. My cheeks were red from embarrassment, I wouldn't have cared less if I had met him before, but in this situation…noooooo. Jeez..I still had my sister's bills to pay, time was going, and I had not done anything about it, nor have I paid part of it. I thought of asking for his assistance, but I didn't know how to. I tightened my fingers around the strap of my wet bag and kept my eyes on the dashboard, afraid to meet his gaze.
“What?”, he said sharply, “Nothing”, I replied m “if you're going to mumble, at least do it silently, till the ride ends”, and he looked away. I decided to break the silence, “Thank you ..for earlier, you didn't have to stop”. His fingers just tapped on the arm rest of the car, he didn't reply and I regretted why I said something. “I don't make a mistake of rescuing lost strays, don't mistake this for kindness”. Ouch, that hurt. He wasn't wrong, I was a lost stray in this world. I couldn't afford my sister's bills, I carried my own burdens alone, no one to rely on.
Finally, I swallowed my pride and whispered, “Mr Hale”, his gaze shot at me, like he had been expecting me to say something, all this while. “I…I know I don't owe you anything”, I continued, “ my sister is in the hospital and she needs immediate surgery, please could you help me .. just this once”. He turned towards me, "You want my help?” he asked. “You're asking me to solve your problems”, he sounded like he was mocking me, but I had to stand his arrogant ass. “Yes, for her sake I am willing to beg”. His lips curved into a smirk, “Be careful of what you ask for, little one. My help doesn't come free”, I didn't understand what he meant, I had no choice than to ask. “What……do you mean?”, he leaned closer to my ear, as his lips caught my earlobe, “On one condition”, he said. What condition comes with Dominic Hale's assistance, haven't I asked the devil for help?
