Rory and I sat at the table eating breakfast. She had her tablet on the table and was checking off items on her to-do list and adding new ones. I had the newspaper open to the financial section. There was fresh fruit, cereal, coffee, and juice on the table.

I didn’t quite understand Rory’s partiality for oatmeal, but she seemed to love the stuff. I couldn’t get Needy to look at the stuff nonetheless eat it, and I didn’t blame her. I hated the stuff. ...
