Secret Mission

Chapter Two

Arthurian Melvin's index finger trailed over Tatiana’s rosy cheeks, he cleaned her tears.

“No, we won't break up. My mother will come to terms with you, soon. I promise!”

With a dismissal nod, the security men dispersed. Arthurian Melvin guided Tatiana away from the living room.

“Phew! That slutty bitch won't create an enmity in my household.”

Smells of antiseptic filled her nostrils as Amber Grey walked sluggishly to room three two nine.

Being a weak nurse who often goes unnoticed, her beautiful slender body could never hold the much needed attention to get noticed.

But her bluish eyes were mesmerising like the sky with her straight nose.

Amber Grey stealthily crept into the room, checking the patient’s chart.

Satisfied with the stability of the electrocardiogram machine connected to the patient, she turned to leave.

“Hey!”

Amber's hand clutched her chest as she jumped in fright. Glancing back, she met Donny’s gaze with a weak smile.

“You scared the shit out of me.”

“My apologies. I didn't mean to.”

Ignoring his apologies, Amber shrugged. “Hope you know that we are not supposed to be seen in public. Have you forgotten?”

“No, I haven't forgotten.” Donny’s gaze searched the arena for any suspicious moves.

Satisfied to get none, his gaze averted to Amber. “Nobody is sparing us any attention. We are safe!”

His boyish cute smiles warm her heart, forcing her body to relax.

“Easy with the smile,” Amber called. “Else, I might end up falling in love with you.”

“Absolutely, I would catch you if you fall in love with me.”

“How are you really doing?” Amber's eyebrow furrowed, with her voice dripping with concern.

“Not really. I have been on shift for twenty four hours.” Donny replied absentmindedly.

He glanced at his wristwatch, just as his handset beeped.

A sneaky urgency crept into his voice. “There's an emergency. Catch you later.”

Donny scurried off without waiting for a response.

Amber remained rooted in her spot, she couldn't blame Donny for being obsessed with work.

Donny was one of the best doctors in Philadelphia, graduated as a first class student from the John Hopkins school of medicine. He was really intelligent, smart too but still single.

The noise from the uproar in front of the hospital snapped Amber out of her reckless thought.

Instinct took over her mind as she quickly scurried to the front.

The sight of the man completely covered in blood welcomed her.

“Nothing must happen to my son! Do something please! If anything happens to him, I will sue this hospital!”

Someone roughly pushed Amber. She fell, sustaining a scratch on her elbow.

“Aren't you a nurse? Get the damn stretcher instantly and stop standing like a monument!”

Amber rose, ignoring the pains shooting through her body as she rushed to get the stretcher.

She returned shortly with the stretcher. Amber walked towards the patient with the intention of assisting him to the stretcher.

“What?” Amber glanced back at the hand on her elbow - the injured spot.

“Don't carry him.” The older woman instructed.

Amber winced, moving a bit away from the woman.

“Kiera, why are you stopping her from doing her god damned job!” The lady who roughly pushed her inquired furiously.

“He is your fiancée. Help him to the stretcher!”

“What? Are you insane? Have you totally lost your mind? What the hell has come over you?”

The lady yelled, attracting the attention of everyone in the hospital.

“You expect me to touch a semi dead man because he is my fiancée?”

“Oh mine!” The older woman's face flushed in crimson. “You referred to my son, Arthurian, as a semi-dead man?”

“Yes! He is half-dead!” The lady retorted.

“Tatiana!”

Amber watched the drama unfold, unable to do a thing. Seconds were tickling. The patient's life was at risk.

“Kiera!” Tatiana called back heatedly. “This relationship between myself and this semi dead man,” she dramatically pointed at Arthurian.

“It's over! I won't be subjected to the title of a widow at a younger age.” Tatiana walked away to her convertible as everyone gasped at her boldness.

“Ma, he needs urgent attention immediately! We will take him to the emergency unit.”

Quickly, the nurses assisted Arthurian Melvin to the stretcher, wheeling him to the operating unit.

Disconsolately, Kiera walked out of the patient’s waiting room just as her phone rang.

Without checking the caller’s ID, she answered. “Hello.”

“Darling, you haven't been picking up your calls. Is everything okay?”

“Arthurian got involved in a ghastly accident.” She cried.

“What the actual fuck!”

“It looks like someone tampered with his car brake leading to brake failure.”

Kiera's statement registered in his mind which meant someone intentionally tempered with his only son’s car to kill him. His only kin. His only heir.

And whosoever responsible for this wouldn't live to tell the story after he, Melvin Albert, apprehends him! Melvin vowed.

“Whete is he now?”

“Hospital of Pennsylvania (HUP).”

“I will be there shortly,” he assured before ending the call.

Underground

A masculine figure paced aimlessly in a room, his patience nearly running out.

It was a dark room, underground in an orphanage home - a perfect place to hide out.

Was the mission successful? He thought as he fought hard to suppress his fury.

“Boss,” another figure called as he quietly opened the door revealing his presence.

“You took so long, why?” He inquired coldly with his back to the intruder.

“I had to clear off every trace of evidence.”

“How did it go?” He puffed his cigarette.

“Not bad.”

“Is he dead?”

“No, but injured.”

“You did a good job!” He complimented, finally turning to face the intruder whose eyes were as cold as a monument with no hint of emotions.

The intruder had a pair of black trousers over a black shirt with a black mask. He was known as the most deadly mafia in Philadelphia and derived great joy in murdering without blinking an eye.

“You may leave.” He dismissed the intruder who left without a word.

A grin broke free on his lips. “Let the battle begin!” He guffawed.

“Arthurian, your life belongs to me and I am just giving you a chance to live but if you win the fifteen million dollars contract from KingPin company, I will return to claim the life I gave you!”

Fire blazed in his eyes, as rage controlled him.

The wineglass in his hands shattered, victimized by his wrath.

“Arthurian, I will break you like this wine glass into unrecognised pieces! I promise you!”
