CEO wants his Billionaire Ex-wife back
Defending Her
Chapter Four
It sounded rational. Donny concluded.
There was no harm in watching from the background as Amber took a step away from her comfort zone. He could still protect her from the background.
“It sounds good, but be careful. If anything seems out of place, let me know!”
Amber's gaze brightened expectantly. “Does that mean I have been assigned the task?”
“Yeah, I will inform his parents.”
Amber jumped up in glee, “Thank you! You are the best!” She smacked a kiss on his cheeks.

The rays of morning sunlight shimmered into the VIP ward jotting Arthurian back to reality.
Arthurian winced in pain, tossing restlessly on the bed. The memories of his accident flashed briefly into his head.
He had entered his car and sped off after the meeting with the board directors over trivial issues at the company. While driving, his hands had gone to the car brake but it wasn't active.
With his heart racing with fear, he had sighted a big truck when it approached, and he attempted to use the emergency brake but it wasn't working.
Arthurian swerved blindly to the right, too late for him, a double decker double crossed him and a lorry came from the opposite direction.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he noticed another car swerving toward his car. His heart jumped out of his ribcage. He threw his hands off the steering wheel and closed his eyes as the car somersaulted and darkness engulfed him.
The electrocardiogram machine beeped noisily, the wavy lines destabilising and reducing till it finished.
Donny and one other doctor rushed in.
“We are losing him, hurry!” Dr. Martin yelled as both rushed to connect the defibrillator to Arthurian's heart.
“1.2.3. start!” Dr. Martin applied the defibrillator.
“1.2.3. pull! 1.2.3. pull!”
But the electrocardiogram machine remained blank.
The procedure continued for the fourth round but still no response.
“We lost him.” Dr. Martin announced.
“No!” Donny denied. “We can't lose a patient!”
At Donny’s words, the electrocardiogram machine beeped.
Dr. Martin glanced at Donny with a renewed hope.
“Come on man, let's bring him back to life!”
Thirty minutes later, Donny successfully stabilized Arthurian.
“Great job!” Dr. Bernard smiled at Donny.
The commotion caused Kiera and Melvin to rush inside the ward. Seeing the doctors surrounding Arthurian, fear clutched their heart.
“What happened?”
“Mr. Arthurian became conscious but his mind revisited the accident and resulted in him having a cardiac arrest.”
“A cardiac arrest?”
“Yes, we lost him once but he is stable now. We sedated him but after two hours, the medication will fade away. Keep a close eye on him.”
Dr. Martin walked away, leaving behind only Donny.
“We would love to request for a private nurse for our son. We are afraid that our incompetency to look after him nearly cost us his life.” Melvin confessed.
Donny smiled. This was the perfect time and opportunity.
“Yes, you are right. There is a nurse here that is diligent and competent for the task. Her name is Amber Gray. I will send her to the VIP ward.”
“Thanks man,” both men exchanged handshakes, Kiera smiled in response.
Some minutes later, an agitated Amber sauntered into the VIP room.
She greeted both parents with a polite smile.
“How are you doing Amber?”
Their gaze accessed her.
Amber's response came out timidly. “I am fine.”
Satisfied with their assessment, Arthurian's parents smiled secretly exchanging an agreement between each other - to matchmake the duo.
Amber went to Arthurian's bed, felt his temperature and pulse before reading his chart.
She walked away giving both parents privacy.
“We have a new daughter-in-law!” Kiera squeaked.
“Exactly! We need to make Arthurian fall in love with her.”
Both quaffed.
As the founder of a multibillion dollar company in Philadelphia, they were influential, and rich but detested the spoilt bratty ones.

Three hours later Arthurian regained consciousness with the smell of antiseptic apprising him of his location - the hospital.
“Mr. Arthurian, you are awake.”
The feminine’s beautiful voice was indeed melodious to his ear. For a second, Arthurian assumed it was an angel’s voice.
His eyes met a rosy delicate skin, and a beautiful face.
He sat up, but his head banged.
Amber noticed him, winced, and went to him. Her furrowed brow held concerned.
“Water…”
Arthurian hinted with his hands to his mouth.
Quietly, Amber went to get him the water.
He felt her soft hands brushed over his skin, and it felt good.
Amber placed a pillow behind to support his back all as Arthurian stared without uttering a word.
He seemed detached and cold from everyone. Amber noted.
“I want to speak with my parents!”
“They are not around, but they will definitely see you.”
“I never said see but speak!” Arthurian scowled.
His harsh tone sent Amber scurrying out.
Arthurian watched her receded figure. Perplexity covered his mind, and he couldn't think.
He could remember getting involved in an accident but not seeing his family members, his fiancé. Tatiana Teague.
There was no sign of her. Did Kiera stop her from visiting him? Anger boiled deep in his heart at the possibility of it.
Surviving the accident was a miracle.
His parents walked in, cooing over his miraculous survival. Arthurian patiently waited for their excitement to die off before probing.
“Mom, did you stop Tatiana from seeing me again?”
Taken aback from the question, Kiera glared at him.
Together, Kiera and Melvin recounted the incident that happened including Tatiana's statement.
Arthurian doubted for a second.
“But?”
“Look Athurian, I do not approve of your relationship with Tatiana Teague. Luckily, she broke off the relationship. Focus on your recovery first.”
The images his parents painted of Tatiana horrified him.
A few minutes later, Amber returned to ensure he was properly rested.
“Look, I am sorry for how I snapped earlier. I felt limited, and my mind was cloudy.”
Amber smiled timidly. Athurian wasn't a bad person.
“Apologies accepted.”
Melvin and Kiera exchanged a knowing cue, secretly they exit.
“Bitch! You haven't changed my bandages and cleaned my wounds.” A disabled patient who shared a room with Arthurian scolded.
“I am sorry ma’am, but my assignment was to Mr. Arthurian. Another nurse will attend to you shortly.”
“You are so incompetent, that's why you are assigned to a bastard.”
“Calm down your horses and keep a rein over your mouth!” Arthurian snapped.
Interfering in the confrontation wasn't his intention, but the sight of Amber shedding tears over the patient’s words pissed him.
The disabled patient quivered at his audacity. “I wasn't talking to you, old man!”
“Stop craving attention so badly. If you want it, die and let your soul watch as your corpse receives the attention you never had!”
Amber's heart surged with happiness. Someone had never stood up for her before, Arthurian was the first.
The disabled patient remained silent, defeated.
“You are beautiful. It seems like I am still dreaming. Do you mind if I kiss you?”
