Proposal

CEO wants his Billionaire Ex-wife back

Proposal

Chapter Five

Amber fled the room, leaving Arthurian perplexed.

He wanted to kiss her. Arthurian found her attractive. He didn't look down at the fact that she was weak.

Humming secretly, Amber went to Donny's office. The excitement to spill the news made her impatient, but she met Donny’s head rested.

“Is everything okay?” Donny gazed up.

“He requested a kiss and he defended me against a disabled patient who attacked me.” Amber Singsong's voice carried the news as she danced around the office in a childlike manner.

“Who?”

“Arthurian Melvin.”

“Are you falling for him?” Donny's icy voice snapped senses into her heart.

“It seems so. He is so kind to me.” A dreamy look crossed Amber’s face. “He apologised when he snapped at me. I think I am falling for him. He is so handsome, and his skin is like a petal.”

Donny stared at Amber in awe as she kept describing her feelings poetically.

“Any information?”

Reality brought Amber back. “No. I haven't gotten any information.”

“You are on a mission. Don't forget your motive. Don't let yourself be distracted. Not now.”

At Amber's frown, Donny added hastily. “I am not rebuking you from catching feelings for him, because the heart has a mind of its own. But remember your mission. Don't let your emotions overshadow every sense in your brain.”

Amber mentally reprehended herself.

“Listen attentively, if needs require you to invade his privacy. Do it!” Donny's stern voice softened. “You have passed through a lot.

Two weeks had passed since Arthurian got admitted. During the past two weeks, Amber had gotten close to Amber, creating a strong bond between them.

The thought of Amber brought a smile to Athurian’s face. He found her fascinating despite Amber being timid, nervous and fragile.

Amber took care of him competently. She didn't fail to check his vitals, get him whatever he wanted.

But she looked so weak to be considered a nurse.

Staring at the wall clock, Arthurian anticipated Amber's arrival. Over the past few weeks, he had gotten used to her and looked forward to seeing her.

Amber assisted him. She was a blessing and he felt lucky to have her by himself despite constantly feeling like an invalid.

“Look, who is up?” Amber sauntered in with a beautiful smile and a wheelchair.

The smile was contagious and had Arthurian smiling at the sight of her.

“I was scared you won't want to see me. You look beautiful.”

“Why not?” Amber blushed.

He noted her hair was french braided and wasn't in scrub. His breath hitched she drew nearer. Mesmerized by her beauty, Arthurian gaze remained fixed on Amber.

“Because you had a day off.”

“I have a day off but not from you.”

Arthurian noted her bit her lips shyly. Was she trying to flirt with him?

“And what do you intend to do with that?” He leaned closer, tempting Amber with his proximity.

Amber breath hitched. “Uhm… you have been a good patient lately, let me reward you.” She guided him to a wheelchair.

“We are going somewhere special.” She teased, leading him out.

Arthurian smiled and Amber found the walls of her heart slowly crumbled. Amber blinked, not ready to entertain the thought.

She pushed the wheelchair gently out, and in silence they arrived at a secluded place in the hospital.

The quiet place held peace and serenity. The antiseptic air still hung in the air.

“It's good for solitude.”

Amber stood beside him, and stared at a distance. “I discovered it a few months ago, so I came here often to sort out my messed up life.”

“It offered me a peace of mind I clearly lacked, and gave me a reason to fight harder.”

Pains drifted from her voice attracting the attention of Arthurian. Amber was just a weak nurse who had passed through a lot.

“How did you get into that ghastly accident?” Amber inquired, swiftly changing the topic. She wasn't here to dwell on the past.

“Someone tempered with the car brake.”

Amber remained silent. She sensed he had more to reveal.

“I didn't suspect it until I intended to use the brake and I discovered it failed.”

“What about the emergency brake?”

“It wasn't working either.”

Amber’s teeth clenched.

“There was CCTV surveillance, surely it must have been captured.”

“I don't think the footage will still be there till now. Someone would have tempered with it to erase every trace of evidence.

“Any suspect? Or an idea of who stands the chance of benefiting from your death?”

Arthurian pondered on the question. “Not at all. Come to think of it,”

Amber's face brightened at the prospect of Arthurian sharing information that could help with her investigation.

He glanced at Amber. “You sound like an undercover agent rather than a nurse.”

Colours drained completely from Amber's face. “Ah, no.” She waved it off. “I am just curious, nothing special.”

Amber put on the masks of indifference under Arthurian hawk’s eyes.

Arthurian averted his gaze from her. “I have rivals but I don't know who exactly. But I intend doing a secret investigation of the accident after I recuperate fully.” He revealed.

Twenty minutes later, Amber wheeled him back.

Returning to the ward, Amber gently assisted him to his bed.

“Thank you for today.”

Amber smiled in response. She turned to leave but his voice stopped her.

“Will you marry me?”
