Lia’s POV
I rub his hair as he lays his head on my lap. My touch calms him somewhat, and before I know it, he falls into a deep slumber and begins to snore like a hippo.
I giggle and continue to pat his hair as he sleeps deeply. I look around, surrounded by a sea of green. A few birds are perched in nearby branches, and some small animals stare at us curiously before they continue to mind their business.
I begin to think about Silas’s fight. My heart races from the adrenaline, and my mind replays the intensity of the fight. I was in awe. The way he took down the first guard with a sneak attack, and how he battled against the second warrior, dominating the fight even though he was injured and killed him. He was like an unstoppable force, a fierce warrior. And yet, despite the might he showed, he lay on my lap, passed out from exhaustion and vulnerable.
I begin to wonder why a trained warrior like him would allow himself to be vulnerable to a complete stranger. It didn’t make sense, and yet it warms my heart that he feels safe around me.
My mind replays the fight again, and something begins to nag me. It’s the way he moved, the power he displayed despite his injuries, the dominance he had over his opponent. It was far beyond the normal werewolf. I begin to think of why Silas was special when it hits me – he’s an Alpha.
I turn my gaze to him, and I begin to question whether my hypothesis is correct. An Alpha wouldn’t have shown me the benevolence that Silas had shown me. He had hunted for the both of us, engaged me in conversations, and smiled at me. His behavior wasn’t in line with the conventional Alpha, but I was very sure he had Alpha-level strength.
My thoughts continue to go haywire, and before I knew it, it was nightfall. I was surprised at how fast time flew, and I was beginning to get hungry again.
Silas, who had been lying like a log of wood, began to show signs of life and rose up, opening his eyes.
“Are you alright?” I stutter as I try to compose myself.
“I don’t bite, Lia. Calm down,” he smirks at me, and then he turns to look below. He nods and turns to face me again.
“Let’s get down,” he suggests, and I stare at him in surprise.
“Aren’t you injured? You looked like you wanted to die when you climbed up,” I question him, but he just shakes his head.
“I’ll be fine. Let’s just get down. Besides, I’m hungry,” he says, gesturing for me to get on his back. I sigh as I hop on his back and wrap my arms around his neck securely.
“Hold on,” he warns as he leaps into the air.
“Are you crazy?” I squeal as I hold onto him tighter. He doesn’t respond as he stretches his arms, and his fingernails change to sharp claws. His claws dig into the bark of the tree, and he begins to dexterously descend the huge tree like an agile monkey.
I begin to wonder how on earth he was able to heal from the fatigue and injuries after such a short nap. I finally have no doubt in my mind that he is an Alpha, or at least he has Alpha blood running in his veins.
We land on the forest floor, and Silas immediately surveys his surroundings. When he is sure no one is around, he drops me from his back and stretches his magnificent muscles. I turn my head away from the sight and look down at my toes.
“Stay put, I’ll go hunt,” he instructs me, and before I can reply, he runs into the woods, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I sit on one of the heavy roots of the ancient tree, contemplating whether to part ways with Silas or not. I saved him, and he returned the favor, so there was no need to stick around anymore. The fact that he was an Alpha made me want to leave even more, as I didn’t want to become another Alpha’s omega. But he seems so nice and unlike any of the traditional Alphas.
I continue to sit there, conflicted by my thoughts, before I finally decide on my next course of action.
I rustle and I turn to see him come back with four very fast rabbits. My stomach growls as I begin to anticipate the taste of their soft flesh in my mouth.
“Give me 30 minutes and I'll satisfy your hunger.” Silas laughed and he roasted the rabbit with his meticulous culinary skills just like he did previously.
He gave me my portion and I couldn't wait any longer. Throwing all ladylike etiquette, I devour the meal with zeal and Silas just munches his portions and watches me with interest in his eyes. I didn't care though, the only thing on my mind was food.
We ate in comfortable silence and after a while, I patted my tummy in satisfaction. I began to feel good in the company of Silas as he had saved me and made sure I was fed. I glance at his side and I see him gazing at the stars with a dazed expression on his face.
I stand up and sit by his side and together we continue to stare. The stars twinkle like in the sky, and they were plenty of stars tonight making the dark sky light up under their splendor.
I glance at Silas and his expression is dazed as his eyes are lost in the vast expanse of the starry night sky. I study his profile, his chiseled features and strong jawline. A strange sense of attraction begins to well inside me which I try my utmost best to quell.
I open my mouth to ask a question that had been bothering me but I hesitate. What if he took it the wrong way? What if he attacked me? I began to over think again but I quickly shake off my hesitance and I asked him the burning question.
“Are you an Alpha?” I blurt out and Silas turns and stares at me with a surprised look.
“What makes you ask that?” he asks and I could sense the hesitance in his tone.
“I've seen the way you move, the way you fight, your aura. It's way above the normal werewolf. You're different, more powerful, stronger. It could only mean one thing.” I continue to insist.
“And what would you do with this Information Lia?” Silas asks again and I'm left tongue tied. Did he think I would sabotage him?
“I'm just curious, that's all.” I state while pouting my lips.
“Yes, Lia. I'm an Alpha.” Silas sighs as he admits. I was surprised, I had deduced that he was an Alpha but to actually hear it from his mouth was still surprising.
“If you're an Alpha why are you out here all alone.” I press on, curious to know why he was out in the forest all alone.
“You ask a lot of questions Lia.” He retorts and I quickly shut my mouth up. I didn't want to anger him, I had no means to defend myself if he got angry and I still didn't know what kind of person he really was.
“Let's sleep Lia, it's been a long day.” Silas sighs and he gets up and makes his way to one of the roots of the tree and lays down.
I continue to stare at him and after a while, I find a comfortable spot and lay my head to sleep..
