I tried to push the thought away, forcing myself to focus on work, but Damon’s words kept echoing in my head.

It was late when I finally left the office. I was terrified of facing Celeste after what had happened that morning. The cold night air hit my face as I drove home, but it did nothing to cool the fire still burning inside me.

I parked and walked quickly into the house, not breathing normally until I reached my room and closed the door behind me.
