I was so focused on my follower, I didn't even notice one of Main Street's shop doors opening. I plowed into it face-first, because of course I did, and nearly knocked the poor woman coming out of it right over. The plastic bag in her hand dropped and skidded across the sidewalk.

"Oh," I squeaked.

A pair of big brown eyes framed by long black hair met mine. "Victoria?"

"Cass," I whispered, "you shouldn't be here."
