“Amelia don't!!”

By the time Lucifer’s voice reached my ears it was too late.

The punch echoed through the forests clearing like thunder.

My knuckles trembled, and the sting ran up my arm, but the sound… the sound of it was all I heard.

Elaine didn’t move at first.

Her lips parted slightly, her eyes tinged with pure disbelief.

Then, slowly, her hand reached up to her cheek… the one I had just struck.
