Amelia POV

Darkness clung to me like a second skin.

My thoughts drifted in and out, fragments of my memory slipping in and then rushing back again.

Then, my body jerked up as consciousness returned to me suddenly.

My eyes flew wide open, my lungs dragging in a sharp and long breath as if I’d been underwater too long.

The ceiling above me was unfamiliar, the dim room only lit by a lantern placed on a table.

Where…? Where the hell was I…?

I tried to sit up, grunting ...
