The sound of distant birds was the first thing that pulled me back.

When my eyes fluttered open, the world blurred for a second.

I was in a dim room covered by twigs and thick leaves.

My body felt heavy and sore, as though I’d been crushed under the weight of a boulder. I blinked a few times before the memory returned… the fight, running in front of Amelia and the dagger piercing through me.
