The scream tore out of me before I even realized my lungs were drawing breath.

My knees hit the floor beside Ronan’s body, the impact barely registering.

Everything around me blurred, the world narrowing until there was nothing left but him. Blood soaked into the stone beneath him, dark and spreading, his chest unmoving, his scent already fading.

My hands shook as I reached for his face, fingers brushing over skin that was already cooling.
