“Enough,”

Lucifer’s voice snapped through clearing, his tone thunderous.

“Both of you.”

I turned away, my chest burning with shame and fury both tangled together.

Lucifer’s hand landed on my shoulder, his touch firm. “What did I tell you about control?”

I shook my head, unable to meet his eyes. “I tried.”

“You didn’t try hard enough.” His tone wasn’t harsh, but the disappointment in it stung worse than any hit Elaine had landed.
