Rory had no other choice than to go back to what she rejected, which was the job offer she had to take in the Stone Enterprise. She had a few days to pay up all the money which was lent to her aunt on her behalf, or she would be dragged for it.
Rory arrived at Manhattan where she had already contacted the number which was written in the card and all of a sudden, a mysterious man came out.
The man walked up to her as she was filled with curiosity. Who was he? And why would he keep staring at her without a blink?
Rory's eyes locked onto the stranger's face, a mix of wariness and curiosity. The mysterious contact her aunt had left her stood before her, with an enigmatic smile.
“I'm Elijah,” he said, his voice low and smooth. “Your aunt knew I'd help you”
“Oh, at first, you scared me while you were coming towards my direction. I thought it was some kind of pocket picker. Well, I'm Rory, Aurora” she said.
“Well there is no such thing here, okay, it's a pleasure to meet you already. I think you first gave up settling down before we got into business,” Elijah said.
“Well you already know that I have no place to stay, and I am new here, so how possible do you want me to settle down when I have no home here?” Rory asked.
“Well I know all this, that was why immediately you called me about the job offer. I already knew it was you, so I had to get you a place where you would be spending your night until the interview is done. If you get the job, you can stay there as long as you want because I know too well that you would get the money if you change an apartment. And you also have to thank whatever you worship because if you had left this last chance I have no way of helping you anymore” Elijah explained.
“Thank you so much, okay, I sincerely appreciate the kind gesture which you have shown me already. I promise to repay you somehow” Rory said.
“You really look tired. I think I should probably take you to your temporary apartment, you are the one to make it permanent, so let me lead the way,” he said as they both took a step forward.
Rory's mind whirled with questions, but Elijah's calm demeanor put her at ease. “We've reached it already. I hope you didn't get so tired while walking?” Elijah asked.
“Not at all, I have been a trekker right before I was even given this card to meet with you so it's no big deal to me” Rory said, her voice low.
“I actually understand how it feels to live in the glades. Okay I was actually one of them, but you know I had to study and bring myself this far. That is why I am more interested in helping people in the glades become better,” Elijah said. Rory nodded in agreement , sensing the environment of her new apartment. “I think you should leave your bag in the wardrobes and if you still have a little strength left in you, I think we should waste it on helping you,” Elijah said.
“Yes, I can still go with the tutors. I am really committed and dedicated as well. I can't afford to lose this interview. I need to learn about the company,” Rory said.
“Okay, I think we should first start from the introduction. How do you really address yourself to your boss?” Elijah asked.
“I just have to tell him my name,” Rory replied.
“I know, but you have to act like you have been in this game before, I mean the work, don't try being dull to anyone, speak up for yourself, okay. So now, would you tell me why you are trying to hide your Identity? And please don't be surprised. I know everything, and also mind your words because I would know if you are telling lies to cover up” Elijah said.
“H…on, PO…ss.ibly did you know about it” Rory said stammering as it was hard for her to tell anyone about her real Identity.
“I already knew before you even came here because when we were on the phone, you said your name was Aurora. But let's get past it, why did you want to hide your Identity?” Elijah asked.
“We have a cold secret with the Stone Enterprise and I have a feeling that they would refuse to employ me if they find out that I am Westfield, so I had to hide my identity, I just hope you could try to understand me because there are some Dept around my neck who I have conditions to pay before the next month” Rory said.
“What did you mean?” Elijah asked.
“I am in a big mess okay and I really need to get financially stable. I really need this job. My aunt took some Dept with my name as a reference for me to pay back without my consent and now that way I have to pay” Rory said.
“I'm genuinely sorry about that, I think you surely require this job more than anyone and that's why you have to work for it, you have to earn what you want. I would only help you to get it, but it's left for you to pass it,” Elijah said.
“Thank you," Rory replied.
“Okay for lesser talks, I think we should step outside and have dinner” Elijah said as they both went out for dinner.
He showed her a plan to help her pay off the debts only if she was to work for the company, but Rory hesitated, unsure if she could trust this stranger because he seemed suspicious. As they sat across from each other, she searched for answers in his eyes, wondering: was Elijah friend or foe?
