Marriage Already?

Carlos had returned and was helping Miguel stand to his feet. Blood oozed from the bite marks on his leg. Anastasia had a lot of questions but reserved it for later.

She called one of the workers to lead Miguel and Carlos to the sick bay.

"I'm sorry for what happened," she apologized as they left. The walk to the sick bay was short but Miguel felt like a nail was being drilled into his flesh with each step.

Back on the farm, Anastasia watched as Miguel walked away. She couldn't mistake that walking step anywhere. But he looked a bit different from Miguel, who divorced her five years ago. Maybe it was just a coincidence. There was no way Miguel would show up at Ani farms searching for a job.

"You know that guy?" Alejandro asked when he caught her staring.

She quickly turned to him and shook her head. "No,  I know all my workers, those men must be new."

"You called him Miguel," Alejandro continued.

Anastasia never expected Alejandro to hear her whisper her ex-husband's name. She locked arms with him, trying to change the topic. "He resembles someone I knew. Now let's continue our tour. I'm sure you didn't plan to stay under the sun talking about one of the recruits."

"We have an umbrella, and so long as I'm with you, I can stay anywhere forever," Alejandro said with a warm smile making Anastasia blush.

"So tell me, how was Rome?" Anastasia asked as they continued their stroll.

"It was fine for the most part," Alejandro answered simply.

Anastasia furrowed her eyebrows. "Didn't you get to explore the place?"

Alejandro shook his head, "it wasn't fun without you by my side. I wished you were there with me, my love."

Ana chuckled. "Work held me down, but next time, I'll try to make it."

Alejandro rolled his head backwards and turned to look at her. "You are always working, Ana. I don't want that to continue when we get married."

"When we get married?" Anastasia's eyebrows raised in amusement.

"What?" Alejandro asked, "You don't want to marry me?"

Ana laughed. "I didn't mean that, Alejandro. I just want us to take things slowly, okay?"

Memories of Bianca and Miguel making out in his office filled her mind. The pain of being rejected, replaced and unappreciated after three solid years of an almost childless marriage still haunted her. Now, she had the best children any woman could ask for, and she was determined not to marry the wrong father for them. She took things slowly with men now.

"Sorry, I didn't know I was being too fast for you," Alejandro replied.

"It's okay. So back to our tour, this is the ostrich farm."

At the sick bay, Miguel's wound had been treated and the nurse was putting her final touches to the plaster.

"All done!" She said and patted it nicely with a smile.

"Thank you," Miguel and Carlos said.

When they were alone, Miguel could finally spill the tea to Carlos.

"She found out it was me."

Carlos's eyebrows creased in confusion. "What do you mean? You did everything possible to cover your true identity."

"Yes! But she was able to see through it all!"

Carlos put up his hands in front of him. "Okay, calm down. We are going to introduce ourselves to her and clear this misunderstanding."

Miguel's eyes shone in defiance. "How am I supposed to do that when she's caught me already?"

"Caught who?" Anastasia asked from the doorway. She stepped into the room with a bounce in her gait.

Both men turned to her and froze. Had she listened to their entire conversation?

Carlos stepped up to her. "Good day, ma'am. I'm Carlos Sanchez, and this is my friend, Alphonso Tillman."

"You're the late recruits." She stated plainly. "I'm sorry for what Rufus did. Normally, strangers come into the farm escorted so he doesn't attack. Seeing you guys move in alone must have triggered him."

Her eyes settled fully on Miguel and he suddenly felt the pressure to act cool. "How is your leg?"

"It's fine. It's incredible. Feels great!" Miguel almost punched himself for talking too much.

"Okay, I'm giving you the day off. You need enough time to heal before you start work."

"Thank you, Ma'am," Carlos said and glared at Miguel to thank her too.

The words felt heavy in his mouth. How is it that he was now calling his ex-wife ma'am?

"Thank you, ma'am," he finally said.

A man appeared at the doorway. He was of average height and slightly muscular with brown hair and blue eyes. He was the man with Anastasia earlier.

"We need to get going, my love, your father wants to see me." He said in a rich baritone. Miguel eyed him. So this was the man who sent the flowers to Anastasia. The man taking his place. Miguel wondered what level they were in their relationship. Why was he meeting her father?

"I'm coming, babe," Anastasia replied to him and turned back to them. "The team lead will be here soon and will show you around the farm," she said and left with the man.

Miguel watched through the window as the man wrapped his arms around Stasy and she laughed, hugging him back. He opened the car door for her and she entered.

"It seems she has already moved on. How about you do the same?"

Miguel eyed Carlos. "Even if I searched the ends of the earth, I wouldn't be able to find another woman like her. She's the perfect piece to my puzzled life." There was a hint of regret in his tone.

Carlos sighed. "If you're going to chase her, then I guess you'd have to step up your game. I know that man she's with. That's Alejandro Luis."

Miguel sat up in his chair. "Yes, tell me about him."

"He is a billionaire tycoon, one of the big boys of Philadelphia."

Miguel moved back in his chair. "That's a lie!"

"I'm serious this time. You may have not known him because he just came to light recently. His father officially proclaimed him heir to their family business in Philadelphia after the first son died in an accident."

Miguel stared in the distance at nothing in particular. He was lost in thought.

"I wonder how you're going to make her fall for you as poor Mr Tillman when she's dating a billionaire Tycoon."

Miguel snapped his head up at Carlos. "Then I'll not have to approach her as the poor Alphonso Tillman."

Carlos scrunched up his face. "Who do you want to approach her as? Miguel Dolores?"
