Unwanted Guest

Apparently, news travels 10 times faster here, mostly because everyone is always ready and eager to gossip.

By the time we reached my house, my parents were already at the door, waiting for my arrival. Even before I stepped down from the car, I sensed the restless energy between them both.

“Naomi! Oo Naomi!” My mom cried immediately when she saw me and made for me with arms stretched wide. “Ohhh” She stopped suddenly when she saw the dried blood on my dress.

“It's okay… I'm fine.. Not my blood.” I called as I approached them.

“Are you hurt sweetie? Theo phoned to tell us you were attacked. Are you bleeding?” My mom asked and, at the same time, examined me all over for any signs of Injury.

“I'm okay, Mom.” I repeated tiredly.

“But the blood…”

“.. isn't mine.” I interrupted her statement. “I was attacked but I sent him running with a belly wound.”

“Atta girl.” My dad slapped my shoulder lightly with a wide smile spreading to the corners of his lips.

“What?!” Mom turned on him immediately. “Don't be proud of this. She could have been killed!”

Dad's face immediately became serious again. “Oh.. umm.. are you okay, Naomi? Are you hurt?” He asked awkwardly.

I chuckled lightly. “I've never been better.” I replied. “Can we go in now, need to get rid of this dress.”

“Who's that?” Mom asked, peering at Logan with a hand over her eyes so she could see better, past the car's blinding lights to the figure that was leaning perfectly still on the car.

“Oh that…” I muttered. For a moment there I had forgotten about him, my silent bodyguard. “That's Alpha Logan, he's a friend of…”

“An Alpha huh?” Mom asked with an undeniable glint in her eyes.

“Yes… No!” I said quickly when I saw the glint in her eyes. Knowing Mom fully well, I understood what she was insinuating, and that was a no-no, in fact, a big NO. “He's a friend of Theo's and don't start getting ideas, mom!”

She wasn't listening. She was already half dragging Dad towards the car. “Come on, Frank. We've got to show our gratitude.” She said.

As they made their way toward Logan's car, I turned and made my way into the house, closely followed by Layla.

***

After all the years that I had spent away from home, this wasn't exactly how I had pictured my homecoming, washing some rogue's blood off my body in the shower!

I stood there silently with both hands framed on the wall while the water ran down my body freely. In everything I did one thing kept coming back to my head, Logan's words from earlier while we were driving home. There was a possibility that someone had hired that rogue assassin but who was it? And for what reason?

Naturally, Marcus would have been the number one suspect but as cruel and twisted as he seemed, I just couldn't bring myself into believing that Marcus was capable of doing this. He had made it clear and plain that I belonged to him, that he wanted me.. Why would he turn around immediately and arrange for my death, it didn't make any sense.

A soft knock on the door broke my train of thoughts. “Honey? Are you in there?” It was mom.

“Ye yeah… almost done.” I replied.

“Okay. Well hurry on sweetie, dinner might go cold if you tarry.”

I toke time to brush myself, rubbing vigously as if the filth of the rogue had somehow managed to stick to me and I wanted nothing more than to get it off.

Moments later, I came out of the shower feeling all fresh and brand new. I had a towel tied to my body while I dried my wet hair with a small towel as I descended the stairs into the living room.

My night tonight was destined to be full of wonders I guess. Half way down the stairs, I stopped suddenly when my eyes fell on Alpha Logan sitting comfortably in a chair and laughing at a joke from dad.

“Oh here she comes.” Mom spoke up immediately she noticed me.

Logan turned too, siezing me up in his green eyes. I noticed his eyes quickly scanning over my body with interest.

I turned quickly and sped up the stairs and straight into my room.

It took the combined efforts of mom and Layla to finally bring me back to the living room.

Once I was clothed and seated, at the table, mom proceeded to dish out the food but my gaze was fixed angrily on Logan's smiley face.

“What's he doing here?” I asked suddenly.

“Naomi!” Both mom and Dad exclaimed.

“Don't be so rude to our guest..” Mom scolded lightly.

“It's okay, Mrs Carter.” Logan spoke nice and gentle and then turned to me. “Your parents are nice folks, Naomi. When they invited me over for dinner, I just couldn't resist.”

“We wouldn't waste the opportunity to have dinner with our daughter's savior.” Mom smiled.

“Savior?” I frowned. “What savior??”

“Well he saved you from that rogue attack, didn't he?”

“Well that's higly exaggerated, Mrs Carter..” Logan spoke up immediately sensing my look of disgust.

“How modest he is.” Mom only smiled.

Savior? What in the seventh hell were they talking about? I literally saved myself! I found myself eyeing Logan suspiciously but he only smiled even more.

“Don't you have somewhere else to be, Alpha Logan? Like your friend's birthday for example?” I asked sarcastically.

“Oh knowing Theo fully well, he's gonna want to party all night.” Logan replied. “I have intentions of returning to his side later. I just wanted to get acquainted with your parents.”

My hands balled into fists at his words. I was beginning to think that running into Logan in that hall was the most stupid thing that had happened to me since my return and not even the rogue attack could top that. Now I was stuck with his devilishly handsome face smiling at me from across the table!

Okay not so handsome but he was getting on my nerves…!
