Iris
I ran as quickly as I could, I had four legs and four feet, actually paws, but the same thing. I looked around, the night was upon us. Tears were falling and wind was blowing to its fullest. I wish I wasn't an animal. If it's a dream, then it's a nightmare. Could it be that I have turned into a wolf? Just because I saw a pack of wolves.
I was just being absurd. My feet, all four of my feet were hurting. So, I stopped, but when I looked around, my eyes widened. My hair stood. I was surrounded by the wolves, perhaps they were the same pack which I saw a few minutes ago.
They all bared their teeth at me. I was so done! So exhausted, how can I fight? So, I decided to run, again, but this time to save my life. I ran and ran! My thoughts were racing with me. Does that mean I am a wolf? But how? Was my wolf always trying to make me feel lonely? The times I tried to act like normal but something inside me screamed to be let loose.
If I am a wolf, then why are my parents not? Can it be that they are not my real parents? Then who were my real parents? Are they even alive? I cried and a howl escaped from me. I was surrounded again. By all of them, every one of them bared their teeth at me. I wanted to tell them, I am not a wolf, I am not an animal, but I had no idea how to do it.
I wanted to communicate with them, tell them that this was not my choice at all. Before I could say, I saw them all moving close to me. One by one, I looked at everyone, one jumped at me and took a bite at my back. I screamed and tried to run; the others followed him. One by one, they bit me, the pain was so overwhelming that I lost my consciousness.
I woke up and found myself in a room. I quickly looked around. I looked at myself, I was human again, but how did that happen? I did nothing! When I smelled, something was different in the air. My eyes followed the smell; they landed on a man sitting on a chair.
He was brown haired, man. Full lips and a trimmed beard make him look older. His curly hair was falling and covering his forehead. His eyes were almost as brown as his hair. They were set on me and assessing me closely. He was handsome, perhaps more than handsome. He looked so perfect and so well made.
“Who are you? What did you do to me?” I asked him. He smiled at me, “You have no idea who I am? Are you blind? Do you not see the chair I am sitting on? The room you are standing in. I am the king of Raymond. Who the fuck are you and what were you doing on my lands?” He asked me. I looked around, yes, I was in a throne room. But I could not see any wolf in sight.
“Did the wolves bring me here? Are you a wolf too?” I asked, and he stood from his chair and slowly made his way to me. “Says the one who has no land. Or are you a spy from the Gracelin kingdom? What information were you told to find? Why did you cross Gracelin lands? What do you want?” He said and started surrounding me.
“I don't know what you are talking about! I just turned into a wolf when I saw them in the forest. I don't know what information you are talking about, I am no spy, I am no wolf. I was celebrating my birthday with my family.” I finished explaining. He only circled me, again and again. Like he was trying to make sense of something.
Also, why did he smell so good? Of course he smelled so good, he is the king. Stupid me! But the smell was captivating, like I wanted to be in it, stay in it. “Are you wearing a weird perfume?” He asked me, and came so close, almost to my ear and sniffed. “You smell like mate, don't you?” He whispered in my ear. But then he quickly distanced himself from me. “So, you are a rogue?” He asked me again. So many questions, I had no idea if he was planning on killing me. So I asked him, “Are you going to kill me? Or leave me to those bad wolves?” A soft chuckle escaped him. My insides turned, why does his laugh sound so familiar? Like I know him.
“Do you have any idea who you are?” He said, after quickly masking his emotions. I shook my head, “I was human, before I turned. Can it be that I was cursed?” I asked him looking in his eyes. He was standing close to me, so close. His breath could be felt on me. He lowered his head and with his thumb parted my lower lip.
“You are no human and there is no curse.” He declared and before I could object he covered my lips with his, his arms surrounding me. Making me his captive. I was never kissed before, but somehow his lips were sweet, like honey but better. He pushed my lips to open at his command and his hand in my hair almost made me melt. But it was short lived.
Someone coughed and he left me instantly. “Your Majesty, we have a more pressing matter at hand.” He went to him to listen, I was left alone in the room. Was this my last night? Will he kill me? Or let me live?
