If you didn’t know her, you would think Victoria was trying to be better.

That’s the scary part.

At home, she moves softer now. She lowers her voice. She asks instead of demands. She laughs at Father’s jokes even when they aren’t funny. She acts like she is trying to fix something instead of steal it.

At school, she doesn’t bother pretending.
