Elena's POV

The first thing that feels wrong is how quiet Layla is at first I try to convince myself it means nothing. Layla forgets her phone all the time. She leaves it in her bag, on silent, face down, dead battery, a hundred normal reasons why she might not answer right away. Any other week, I probably wouldn’t even notice.

But after everything that has happened, silence feels different.

It feels heavy.
