Chapter 14: Guilt

Evangeline

As my eyes open, pain follows. It shoots through my bones and every corner of my head, dulling my mind and ripping a grunt from my throat. The first I notice is the blinding white lights, encased around spotless white walls.

I blink, wincing to adjust my eyes to the harshness of the lights. Then panic sets in. Where am I? Why am I here? Questions churn in my mind as my eyes move frantically across the room.

 Something—someone moves and it catches my attention.
