Elsie heard a loud bang coming from her right. She saw Luca slam his door as he hurried past her without sparing her a glance.
She'd been waiting five hours for him to be done with work. It was nine p.m. Elsie didn't mind. She was not going to let Luca Vanthross, the ruthless CEO discourage her from sticking to the job.
With that thought, she grabbed her bag and hurried after him. When they got to the elevator, Luca turned to her and began rambling.
"I have about six meetings scheduled for tomorrow. Here.” Luca shoved a tablet into her hands. Elsie struggled to grab it, adjusting her handbag properly.
"Go through the schedules here, make sure I don't miss anything tomorrow. There are emails you should look into as well. Everything in this tablet is synchronized to the computer at your desk.” Luca finished and stepped into the elevator when it opened.
"Got it, sir,” Elsie replied after skimping through the tablet.
"What are you expecting for dinner sir?” Elsie was curious.
She wanted to know if it was something she could prepare and if not, there was always the internet to assist her.
"You'll know when we get to my home," was Luca's curt reply.
"Right.” Elsie shoulder's slumped. Luca tried not to pay attention to her presence in the elevator. He shifted away from her until he was at the other side of the car.
Luca made a mental note not to get into the elevator at the same time as Elsie. It didn't do him any good.
"Where do you live sir?” Elsie asked Luca, disrupting his thoughts. He turned towards her and blinked at her.
"What?” He asked, trying to catch up with her question.
Elsie couldn't help but smile at his lost expression. She thought he was exhausted from having to work too much that he couldn't keep up with her question.
She smiled at him and asked him again. "Where do you live?”
Luca didn't smile back at her. Instead, she heard something like "hell" under his breath before he turned away from her.
"You ask silly questions, Ms. Cruise,” Luca replied.
"There's a GPS in the car. Your job is to follow it and drive me home. I hope this is the last silly question you have for me tonight.”
When he finished, he stepped out of the elevator as the doors opened. Elsie was stunned into an uncomfortable silence.
She tried not to let what he'd said hurt her feelings. She inhaled as much air as she could when they left the building. The air traveled through her nostrils, calming her nerves down.
"I can do this,” Elsie muttered to herself.
When they got to Luca's car, she let out a small gasp. She turned to see if Luca had noticed the gasp but he was already climbing into the backseat of the car.
She was grateful he didn't hear her. Luca opened the door and climbed into the driver's seat. She tried not to show her excitement for climbing into such a luxurious car. She couldn't believe she was going to drive it, too.
Even if it meant as a servant, in disguise.
Luca handed the key to her.
When she keyed the ignition and the engine came to life, Elsie grinned like Garfield finding leftover lasagna.
She looked at the rear mirror to see if Luca had noticed but he was busy on his phone.
She tapped on the screen and a map came on. When she looked closely, observing the map, she found out that Luca lived in a very influential area. That wasn't a surprise. What surprised her is that Luca's neighborhood was ten minutes away from her apartment complex.
Ten minutes away by foot.
"Thank God.” Elsie let out a breath.
If I drop him at his house, I can easily walk back. If he calls me in the middle of the night, it won't be so hard for me to just get to his home. I'm not going to spend money on a ride. Elsie thought.
She drove out of the parking area and turned out of the Acia building. The drive was silent and she wondered if she'd turn put on some music.
She glanced in the mirror again to find Luca was still on his phone. Elsie thought he was busy with work or an important message and decided not to put on any music.
She began singing to herself in her head not knowing she was humming out loud. Luca wondered where the soft sounds were coming from. He locked his phone, straining his ears to find the source of the soft melody.
He knew it wasn't from outside the car because all windows were rolled up. When he turned his head towards Elsie, he heard it loud and clear. All thoughts ceased as he continued to listen to her melodic humming.
It pleased him to know she had a good voice, even when she wasn't using it. Luca bet she also had a nice singing voice.
He closed his eyes and let Elsie's humming wash over him. He leaned back his head against the headrest for the rest of the drive.
"We're here, sir.” Luca opened his eyes when he heard Elsie's voice. He looked out the window and saw they were already at his house. He climbed out first, and turned to the window of the passenger seat, signaling for Elsie to roll it down.
When she did, he pointed toward his left. “Down there, you'll find a garage. You just have to get the car in front of it and it will open. Park it inside and get back here to prepare me dinner.”
"Of course, Mr. Vanthross.” Elsie replied without hesitating. When she drove down to the garage, it occurred to Luca that she'd said so with heavy sarcasm. He smiled to himself, shook his head, and went into his house.
