The pressure settled over us like a personal gravity, relentless and intimate. One by one my warriors crumpled faces frozen, mouths hanging open in a silence that screamed. Tavian wavered first, a mountain of a man shuddering, breath ragged, legs trembling as if the earth beneath him had betrayed him. Roarke slumped at the tree line, utterly limp. Me? I stayed upright.
