The sky was a burnished canvas of oranges and purples when I stepped onto the balcony, the warm breeze brushing across my bare arms. The city beyond the estate seemed distant, irrelevant. Out here, above everything, I could almost convince myself that nothing could touch us. That I could hold her close and make the world shrink to the space we shared.
