"Luther, didn't you really love Eunice? Bro. She's a famous model in Vietnam now. I'm sure many men are now crazy about her. And I'm sorry to say this, but she looks gorgeous in that magazine, and she's become even more beautiful now.”
"I don't like her. That's why I didn't love her. I'll go to the men's restroom first." I walked away, leaving Kelvin alone.
"Did he really not even love his wife? Well, we men feel things differently. But the question is, what if their paths cross again?"
"Stay here, okay? I'm just going to answer Ezra's call." I said, showing Ellaine my cellphone.
"Okay, come back quickly." I nodded to Ellaine and immediately walked towards the exit when a drunk woman accidentally pushed me, causing me to lose my balance and hug a man from behind.
"Wtf! You’re just walking and you’re still so stupid!" The man shouted and pushed me, making me fall onto the floor.
"I'm sorry... I didn't mean it. Someone pushed me, so that's why it happened." I apologized. But the anger was still obvious in the man’s familiar voice, and he didn’t seem to plan on turning around to look at me. Well, who am I to make him glance back, anyway?
"E-unice... Is that you?"
"Kelvin..." I stammered in a soft voice.
"When did you get back here?" Kelvin asked. He’s my best friend who betrayed me. I’d hoped our paths would never cross again, but shit! The world is really small, and here we are, face to face once more.
"Yesterday, I’ll leave you for now. I still need to talk to someone on the phone." I told Kelvin, then brushed off the back of my jeans that had gotten dirty.
But just as I was about to leave, someone suddenly pulled my hand. "Who said you can go, Wife?”
I immediately struggled free and raised an eyebrow at Luther because of what he said. “Get your hands off me! Or should I remind you that we’ve been separated for six years?”
"Yes, we’ve been separated for six years. But you’re still the mother of our son!”Luther’s words seemed to echo in my ears, and my heart ached again as I remembered our child, whom he’d kept from me for four years, along with Monica.
"You’re right! You kept our child from me for six years. With that, Monica! Let go of me. If you don’t want me to sue you for harassment.” I struggled and threatened him, but he still wouldn’t budge from what he said. Good thing Kelvin stepped between us to stop us. So Luther had no choice but to let me go, even though he didn’t want to.
"That’s enough, Dude!"
"We’ll meet again, remember that! I’ll find you no matter where you hide, Eunice Villareal!"
"That’s if you can still find me, Mr. Luther Villareal? By the way, Ezra Monteclaro is my fiancé."
"Let’s go! Let’s just move to another place. Not here anymore."
"Wait! Why do you look like that? Did something happen?" Ellaine asked, downing her drink in one go.
"I’ll tell you once we’re out of this place," I said to Ellaine.
"Did you really have to do that to her? And you really emphasized the word ‘Wife.’ Bro, I think you forgot the ‘Ex’ in ‘Wife.’ Kelvin told Luther, clearly turning red with anger.
"Damn it! Ezra Monteclaro!"
As we stepped out of the bar, Ellaine suddenly stiffened, making us pause briefly. "What’s the problem that you had to drag me out through the exit?" I asked Eunice, waiting for her to speak. She immediately looked up and fell silent for a moment.
"Hey! I’m talking to you, woman!”
"He’s here," I emphasized those words to her. But it still didn’t seem to sink in for Ellaine. So I said my useless ex’s full name.
"Wait... How come? Why is he here?" she asked, disbelieving, while staring straight into my eyes seriously.
I just sighed and looked into the distance when Ellaine suddenly broke into a wide smile. "I don't know. I really don't know.”
"I think this is what we call destiny." Ellaine teased, making me furrow my brows.
"What you mean is this is what we call hell." I snapped at Ellaine, which made her laugh uncontrollably.
" Who knows, maybe there’s a reason for this? Second chances exist, right?”
I lightly tapped my forehead in response to Ellaine’s nonsense. "What second chance? That’s not a thing anymore. Enemies, maybe."
"I’m just joking! You’re so overreacting. I know you have Ezra now, and I’m happy for you two.”
"I thought you didn’t love her anymore? So why were you acting like Eunice is still your wife earlier?" Kelvin said, confusing me.
Instead of going to the men’s restroom, I didn’t bother following through because of what happened earlier. Instead, I drank the alcohol on my table and immediately faced Kelvin. "Why can’t I do that to her? She’s still my wife, Kelvin! Eunice is still my wife. And she’s Isaac’s mother.”
"But you’re separated, so stop messing with her life—she’s happy now," Kelvin said seriously, making me raise an eyebrow at him.
"Cheers! Paris is so beautiful, isn’t it? Where else do you guys want to travel next, the four of us?" I asked.
"How about London, Monica?" Zareh suggested.
"If Luther lets me again, why not?”
"We’ll talk about that when we get back home, right, Zellia?"
"You’ve been with Luther for 6 years, but why aren’t you married yet?”
I suddenly fell silent and thought about Rezah’s question. Meanwhile, she and Zareh waited for my answer. "Luther’s just waiting for Eunice to sign their annulment papers so we can get married."
"Is that so? Or maybe he changed his mind, which is why he’s not rushing Eunice to sign the annulment papers?" Zareh said.
"You’ll be in trouble if that happens, Monica. So while it’s early, tell Luther to hurry up and divorce that woman." Rezah chimed in.
"I will, Rezah.”
