A NEW JOB IN SIGHT
The two best friends took a taxi again, since their car was at the
the mechanic's and would be there for another three days, which made their lives quite difficult.
They headed to the other side of the neighborhood where they lived to meet with the
representative of the new construction project. Their company would be responsible for the post
construction cleaning.
In the taxi, Clara's cell phone rang. It was Sergio, their accountant and friend:
—Hey, Clara, good morning. Sorry to call on a Saturday morning.
—It's okay, Sergio. We're on our way to a construction site. We're almost there.
—Is Nana with you, then?
—Yes, I'll put her on speakerphone.
"Well, girls, I'm working today and I was surprised by the amount deposited into your account
earlier today. You cleaned house yesterday, right? You deposited almost two thousand, is that
right?"
—Wow, Sergio!" Nana took the phone from her friend's hand, even though it was on
speakerphone. Her voice came out so loud it startled the taxi driver:
—"Careful up ahead, sir, and don't even think about increasing the fare, okay?" Nana said to
the driver, who looked at her in the rearview mirror. To her accountant friend, she asked:
—Sergio, whose name is on the deposit?
"It came in Paco's name. It must be one of the guys from the party yesterday, right?"
—You're very curious, you know that? Do you think we were having sex yesterday?
We were working!
Nana spoke like a quiet driver. The man was indeed curious and seemed to have slowed down,
driving more slowly to better catch the content of the conversations.
"What are you talking about, Nana? I know you were working. And don't call me sir, girl. I'm the
same age as you, although I'm smarter and only work in
profession I graduated in!" — Sergio got angry and his voice got even louder now, outraged.
Clara just laughed at the situation and the deception.
—I was talking to the nosy taxi driver, Sergio. Relax, man. We're only working in another field
because we're not heirs and we need to for now, but soon we'll be as successful as you, my love.
"I love it when you call me 'my love,' you know? How about we meet later and you say that in my
ear and between the sheets?"
Sergio wasted no time and always took the opportunity to flirt with Nana. They had studied at the
same college, and Clara met him before her friend did. They formed a trio of friends during a
very enjoyable time, helping each other and even earning nicknames for always being
always together. Sergio was a sweetheart and helped them get established in the company,
took care of all their finances, and even more, he solved various situations that weren't even
within the scope of an accountant, such as their bank accounts.
Nana took her cell phone off speakerphone, not wanting to give the taxi driver any more attention,
and judging by the joking and low voice she used when talking to her friend, something was going
to happen between them again that night.
—Who the hell is Pacco, anyway? Clara asked as soon as her friend hung up the phone and
handed it back to her.
—"It must be the CEO you hooked up with in the bathroom," she said, smiling, and looked at
the driver, who had turned his face to hear the conversation better. "Damn, you're
really curious, huh? You can stop right here and we'll finish the rest on foot." She made a move to
open the door and the driver stopped the car in the middle of the two-lane road.
They dragged their friend along until they reached the other side.
—How much does that drink cost? Nana asked her friend, smiling.
—We can't accept it, Nana!
Clara felt bad after what she had said to the young man the night before. She was
tired and irritated with Nana, who insisted that they should take it and help with the cleaning work.
She knew that this helped them a lot and saved on employees. She always told Nana that maybe
they would save more by hiring more employees, rather than helping with the cleaning
themselves
cleaning. After all, they were small business owners and should be taking care of the company,
not getting their hands dirty.
—You must be joking, Clara. Do you really think I'm going to give two thousand reais back to
that ugly guy?
—He's not ugly, Nana, and yes, it was a misunderstanding.
—The stinker, then, so be it. Do you think he needs that amount? It must be, as my
stepmother always says about a small amount, pocket change!
—Cocktail money that isn't ours!
They crossed a block, thanks to Nana who had gotten out of the taxi earlier, they would have to
walk three more blocks on foot.
—Not even his, Clara. Listen, it's two thousand! He won't miss it.
—It's not ours either, you know that. Don't you feel like a whore, taking money from a guy?
—Why would I feel like a whore if I didn't even have sex with him? You'd have sex with him
without thinking about money, you know that.
—Didn't I say he's ugly and smelly?
—What's the problem, if I sleep with every dragon? And you were the one who said he was
ugly and smelly. I only saw him from behind, and I loved what little I saw, by the way.
—My God, Nana, you're really no good. I didn't think he was ugly, I thought he was different,
he doesn't look like a model, I don't know, I ended up drinking a little from the bottles they left
almost empty around the mansion, that's the truth. Maybe I was even a little high and didn't see
him very well.
—What did we tell the cleaning staff about not eating or drinking anything in the places we
clean? asked her friend, looking at her with an angry face.
—You had a sip too, I know!
The two were arriving at the building they were going to clean and laughed like two silly girls.
The building was still in the final stages of construction, and since it was Saturday and
almost lunchtime, there weren't many employees present. Looking at her watch, Clara saw
that they were almost half an hour early.
—"Let's find a place to sit down," she asked her friend. The two entered through the open gate
and soon found a place in the shade, next to hundreds of bags of cement and lime. The
construction was in full swing, and it looked like the place they were standing would be a gas
station. "Pablo, who is going to talk to us, told me that a chain hypermarket will be built here and
that there will also be a gas station''
—What are you doing? Are you going to call him? We're early, Nana." Clara saw her friend
typing away on her cell phone.
—"I'm talking to Sergio. I want to know the CEO's name so I can stalk him. What else would it
be? I'm a ninja, my dear."
Clara laughed out loud and stood next to her friend to see what she would find out about the
generous young man who had sent them such a large sum of money.
Sergio was quick and gave her his full name. Nana, even quicker, Googled his name and, voilà!
