I walked home, no longer anyone's mate, no longer anyone's wife. The house was silent when I opened the door. Every corner of it held memories, but tonight, all those memories felt like thorns pressing into my chest.
I went to the bedroom, opened the closet, and started packing my things. One by one, I lifted the dresses I had once bought with Lucian, folded them, and placed them into the suitcase. My hands trembled when my eyes fell on the white coat still hanging neatly inside. That coat had once been my pride the symbol of my identity as a doctor. I brushed my fingers across the fabric, remembering the days I saved lives in the hospital, the days before I gave it all up to become a wife and, hopefully, a mother.
"How foolish I was," I whispered to my reflection in the mirror. "You gave up everything for love, and look what it gave you, Sera."
Before I could close my suitcase, the front door slammed open. Heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway. I turned quickly, and there they were Lucian stood in the doorway of our bedroom, and behind him, Amanda walked in, cradling her baby in her arms.
I froze. My gaze immediately shifted to our room. By the side of the bed stood a white crib filled with blue blankets and small teddy bears. On the wall hung decorations shaped like clouds and stars, as if I had never been part of this home at all.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice shaking as I tried to keep my tears from falling.
Amanda smiled faintly and walked toward the dressing table. She picked up our wedding photo, stared at it for a second, then tossed it carelessly into my suitcase.
"I don't think this deserves to be displayed here anymore," she said.
My fists clenched, fury burning inside me, but I knew fighting would only make me look pathetic in front of them.
Lucian looked at me with an expression so cold I barely recognized him. Without a word, he pulled his wallet from his pocket, took out some bills, and threw them in my face.
"Take this, Sera. You're leaving this house tonight. I don't want any more trouble," he said flatly.
The money scattered across the floor. The sound of it hitting the ground was humiliating, like the sound of my dignity crumbling. I stared at him in disbelief.
"You're seriously throwing me out? After five years of marriage? After everything I've sacrificed for you?"
He said nothing, just stared at me as though I were a stranger.
Amanda stroked his back softly. "Let her go, darling. Don't waste your energy on something that no longer matters."
I turned to her, my glare sharp as a blade. "You knew he was my husband, and you still took him. You knew how hard I fought to have a child, yet you destroyed everything I had."
"Love can't be forced, Dr. Sera. Maybe it's just your fate not to be a Luna, not to be a mother."
"I may have lost my husband, but I will never lose myself. Remember my words, Amanda. You might have won today, but time will prove who truly deserves to stand beside him."
"Enough. I don't want to hear another word of this nonsense. Take your things and leave," Lucian ordered.
I looked at his face one last time. The man I once called home now stood before me as nothing more than a stranger.
"I won't beg you to stay, Lucian. But I want you to remember this—you just lost someone who truly loved you. And someday, when the world turns its back on you, you'll remember who was always by your side," I said quietly.
I slammed my suitcase shut and dragged it toward the door.
My steps halted at the threshold of the bedroom. The room that once held laughter now reeked of betrayal. I turned back, seeing Amanda holding her baby proudly while Lucian looked at them with the same smile that once belonged to me. Tears fell down my cheeks, but I didn't wipe them away. I let them flow freely because this time, I wouldn't hold anything back.
"I'm leaving, not because I lost. But because I know I deserve happiness that isn't built on lies," I whispered.
Without waiting for a reply, I stepped out of the house. I walked aimlessly into the night, dragging my suitcase carrying my pain, but also my resolve.
I would rebuild my life. I would wear my white coat again. And one day, when people spoke the name Dr. Sera Blackthorne with respect, they would know that the woman they once cast aside was the one who rose from betrayal.
