The ultimatum

The council chamber was dimly lit, the flickering torches casting long shadows on the stone walls. I stood beside Chase, the weight of the elders' gazes pressing heavily upon us.

Elder Marcus cleared his throat, breaking the silence. "Alpha Chase, we've convened to discuss matters of great importance."

Chase nodded respectfully. "I'm listening."

Elder Liora stepped forward, her eyes sharp. "Your growing closeness to Storm has raised concerns. Traditions exist for a reason."

I felt a flush creep up my neck but remained silent.

Chase's jaw tightened. "Storm has proven herself time and again. Her strength and loyalty are undeniable."

Elder Marcus interjected, "It's not about her capabilities. It's about maintaining the balance and order we've upheld for generations."

Chase took a deep breath. "I understand your concerns, but I won't let outdated customs dictate my choices."

Elder Liora's eyes narrowed. "Defying the council could lead to unrest. Are you prepared for the consequences?"

Chase met her gaze unwaveringly. "If standing by Storm means challenging tradition, so be it."

The room fell into a tense silence.

Elder Marcus finally spoke, "Very well. But know this: your decision will shape the future of our pack."

As we left the chamber, Chase turned to me, his expression resolute. "No matter what comes, we'll face it together."

I nodded, determination rising within me. "Together." *Chapter 13: The Decision*
