The World that Woke

When Hale opened his eyes, the first thing he felt was weight.

Cold, damp air pressed against his skin, the smell of ozone and burned circuitry thick in his lungs. For a moment, he couldn’t move — his body heavy, half-buried beneath shattered glass and twisted fiber cables. Then his hand twitched, and the world rushed back in a flood of pain and sound.
