ERIC’S POV

His question caught me completely off guard, knocking the breath out of my lungs. I snapped my head in his direction to look at him, my jaw slackened and my eyes were wide in disbelief. If I’d had a mouthful of my beer or something else, I probably would’ve choked on it right then.
