He stared at me in relentless expectation, hoping for a positive response.

My eyes locked onto his, my lips parting involuntarily in stunned disbelief, wondering how that thought had even crossed his mind. I never knew he had it in him to want revenge on my father for what he did. I was even more shocked he remembered my father.

Yes, my father had hurt me—deeply. And maybe it would’ve been natural to crave revenge. But that wasn’t me.
